Greetings Families!
The month of October is always a big month in the world of education. We have just wrapped up our 1st Quarter and you will receive report cards on Thursday, Oct. 19th. We are looking forward to Parent Teacher Conferences this week. This is our only scheduled parent-teacher conferences during the school year. You are welcome to request a conference anytime you wish, we are always happy to meet or have a quick chat over the phone. You only need to request one. The week of Oct. 23rd is Red Ribbon Week and we end our big month with Character Parade the morning of Halloween, Oct. 31st. Time seems to fly by in October!
I want to take a moment to report on our final Bulldog Blitz fundraiser numbers. Our amazing students and community raised a total of $67,142.60. After expenses, we have netted $59,974.56. We are blessed to have an incredible team of parents that run the Bulldog Blitz fundraiser for us. If we hired an organization, they would take a 40-60% profit from the money raised so these parents are responsible for 40-60% more funds that go back directly to our students! Jenny Nobles, our Blitz leader, has done an incredible job these last two years of organizing, communicating, and running the fundraiser for us. I want to give a shout out to her team of parents too! Thank you Karlita Medina, Angelica Cofoid, Adrianna Shabbot, Nathalia Miller, and Maria Aguirre. They made it possible for us to put about $30k back to students! Thank you!
Enjoy a great week!
Always True Blue,
Amanda Bunch

October is Dyslexia Awareness Month, but for our Dyslexia Specialists (Mrs. Carrick and Mrs. Montgomery) it's also November, December, January, February and you get the picture. We love our Dyslexia students! Be sure to join us in recognizing Dyslexia Awareness by wearing red on Thursday, October 19th. If you're wondering why red...red has been chosen as the awareness color because we are taking back the power of the dreaded red pen. We are hoping to empower our students to feel proud of the strengths they have because they are dyslexic. #GoRedForDyslexia
We welcome families to come see our students for our Character Parade. This year we will line our outside front entrance and sidewalk with families wanting to see our students. Our students will start inside the building and make their way out the front entrance making a circle coming back in at the North entrance. All of this will be weather pending, but we hope you can make it out!
Our parade will start at 7:50am and wrap up at about 8:10.
We have been welcoming Lunch vistors for a few weeks. We ask that visitors sign up prior to arriving at school for lunch.
Visitors/Parents must sit at the tables on the Stage and may only have their child eating with them, no friends are permitted to join.

I first want to thank Erin Zajac and Candice Wright for helping with my amazing bulletin board that highlighted all of the amazing dots our student's made. All the dots show how each of our students are special, unique and one of a kind.
This month we are talking about "Our choices". I am coming into classrooms and talking about Red ribbon week and bullying. We want to make certain all students feel safe and happy here at school. We are talking about what bullying looks like and strategies if we see/hear bullying. We all want to be Upstanders here at Beck!
Red ribbon week is October 23-27. I have included the dress up days on a flyer below. This is a week that we talk about making healthy/unhealthy choices and saying no to drugs.
"Children of parents who talk to their teens regularly about drugs are 42% less likely to use drugs than those who don’t; yet, only a quarter of teens report having these conversations . Red Ribbon Week® (October 23-31), the oldest and largest drug prevention campaign in the nation, is your opportunity to get the ongoing conversation started . This year’s theme is Be Kind To Your Mind. Live Drug Free.™ Visit www .redribbon .org to learn more about Red Ribbon Week® and get tips for talking to your kids about drugs . The life you save may be that of your own child or a dear friend "
