Research for 5th grade

5th Grade Research Project

In January, I collaborated with the fifth grade teachers to introduce research. We discussed how to research effectively, how to organize our information and how to cite our sources. This document was used to assist with teaching.

First Grade Weather Unit

During the time that first grade was learning about weather, we used the green screen in the library to create our own weather forecasts.

Technology Integration in the Library

Storybird was a hit in both 3rd and 4th grade.

We used it to write poetry as well as to write our own original stories.

Through our library time, students in 4th and 5th grade have all had time to learn about the purpose of their portfolio, what type of work to include in a portfolio and how to personalize it.

We have used Ozobots to start to learn the basics of coding. These robots are great for working on sequencing and following directions. They are also a great tool to teach creativity and perseverance.

Flipgrid has been a great response tool for students to use. We've used it for the following:

  • book recommendations
  • book connections
  • sharing our own stories with an author

Zoom Sessions

We have reached beyond the walls of the library this year and zoomed with the following:

5th grade - Lady Bird Johnson Middle School - Net Zero

4th grade - Patrice McLaurin and Jarret Lerner

3rd grade - Jill Esbaum

2nd grade - Corey Rosen Schwartz

1st grade - Tara Lazar

Kindergarten - Josh Funk
