Learning Content : What are we learning?

**It is very important that your child be at school, unpacked, and in their seats by 7:40am. We have several late arrivers and it is hard to begin our morning meetings when students are getting here past 7:40. Thanks for your help with this matter!

ELA: Students are working in our realistic/historical fiction book clubs. Our final meeting was today (4/19). We will complete a summative over the book next week. We will be utilizing a project based learning model for the remainder of the school year. Students are currently researching and creating individually chosen products. These will be compiled into a scrapbook, that will be a summative grade, once all activities are completed.

Social Studies: We will are learning about the Civil War. This learning will culminate in a multi-activity project.

Geography- We are down to our final region, the Pacific Coastal region. This final quiz on April 24th will cover the states and capitals of all regions in the US. They will be expected to know the state, capital, and location on the map.

Math: Students should practice mastering multiplication & division facts until they memorized. We are working on our last content before STAAR review begins. We have studied different kinds of bar graphs, tables and dot plots and will finish liquid measurement conversions (liters, gallons, cups, quarts, etc) this week. We will have our final summative test on Tuesday, April 23rd. We will have a week of STAAR review before the test on May 1st.

Science: Students have completed the science STAAR test! We started our 1st summative project where students are completing research on a space topic of their choice. This project will consist of 2 formative grades and a summative grade. The final project is due on Thursday, May 2nd. Other due dates are listed in google classroom. STUDENTS WILL NEED TO BRING A POSTER BOARD TO CLASS ON OR BEFORE FRIDAY, APRIL 26TH.

Assignments, Grades, and Access at Home

Things you can do at home to help your student be successful:

1. Check in with your child about their day. Ask specifics about what they learned or activities they did.

2. PLEASE check your child's daily planner.  Assignments/topics are recorded there daily. If they did not finish daily work, it is homework.  It is the student's responsibility to write due dates and test dates in their planner because they have class time to get organized.

3.  Check Home Access Center (HAC), with your child, regularly and sign up for alerts. We often try to work with students to get missing work completed, prior to contacting home. In order to help prepare students for middle school, we also encourage them to email their teacher if they have questions.

4. Refer to the Homework Expectations Sheet for recurring homework in ELA (Imagine Literacy, NRI, Vocab). Check the available resources on Google Classroom.

5. Students will pass 2 lessons per week in Imagine Math as homework. Some class time is also given.
