Dear Parents and Guardians,
August 18 and 25, your child will take tests called Measures of Academic Progress® (MAP®). We give students MAP tests to better understand your child’s instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year, and from year to year in the areas of reading and math. Your child will take these tests on a computer.
MAP Growth tests are unique in that they adapt to your child’s level of learning. If your child answers a question correctly, the next question is more challenging. If they answer incorrectly, the next one is easier. This results in a detailed picture of what your child knows and is ready to learn—whether it is on, above, or below their grade level.
Your child does not need to study to prepare for the MAP test. This test is being used to assess what your child already knows. This way, your child’s teacher can use the data to better reach the needs of your child. Please make sure your child gets plenty of rest and eats a good breakfast the day of the test. We are truly excited to be partnering with parents to help all kids learn. Through your support with testing parents and teachers can have a profound positive effect on the lives of our children.
Please pack your child an extra pair of clothes in their backpack. This will give them clean cothes to change into if they get muddy at recess or spill something at lunch. We have already used up the small supply that Nurse Davis has in the nurses office.
Staying after school has never been sweeter!
Join third grade on August 28th for an afternoon of fun and frozen treats.
This is where we will let you know what concepts your child will be working on in the upcoming week.
We will develop habits of good readers by practicing fluency, reading partnerships, and questioning.
Reading MAPS will be on Monday, August 18th
We encourage you to spend 20 minutes reading each night! This can include independent reading, audiobooks, or partner reading with parents!
We will learn brainstorming strategies to generate writing topics and begin drafting a personal narrative.
