Sometimes due to laziness we do not turn off the fan resulting in wastage of power. So to minimize the power usage, a prototype is develops to automatic turn on and off the fan with reference to the set temperature. This circuit can also be used in boilers to cool them down if it crosses the set temperature.

Op-amp has voltage comparator inside, which has two inputs, one is inverting input and second is non-inverting input. When voltage at inverting input (-) is higher than the voltage at non-inverting input (+), then the output of comparator is LOW. And if the voltage of non-inverting input (+) is higher than inverting end (-), then output is HIGH. Some Op-amps have more than one comparator inside (op-amp LM358 has two, LM324 has four) and some have just one comparator like LM741.
