Dr. Krishna Undela is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice at the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) Guwahati, India. He earned his M.Pharm. (Pharmacy Practice) from the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) Mohali in 2012 and completed his Ph.D. at JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research, Mysuru, in 2019. Prior to joining NIPER Guwahati in 2020, he served as a Lecturer in the Department of Pharmacy Practice at JSS College of Pharmacy, Mysuru, from 2012 to 2020.
Dr. Undela teaches postgraduate courses in Hospital, Community & Clinical Pharmacy, Pharmacoepidemiology, Pharmacoeconomics, Pharmacovigilance, Pharmacotherapeutics, and Evidence-Based Medicine. His research focuses on medication therapy management in chronic diseases, pharmacoepidemiology, pharmacovigilance, health economics and outcomes research (HEOR), and evidence synthesis. He has extensive experience designing and conducting pharmacoepidemiological studies in both hospital and community settings, with a strong emphasis on generating real-world evidence to support healthcare decision-making.
An internationally recognized researcher, Dr. Undela has received several prestigious fellowships and travel awards. He was awarded the 2015 Endeavour Executive Fellowship by the Australian Government for advanced training in Pharmacoepidemiology and Quality Use of Medicines at the University of South Australia, Adelaide. In 2026, he was invited to the University of Tsukuba, Japan, for a collaborative research programme in pharmacovigilance supported by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) under the LOTUS Programme.
Dr. Undela has been an active contributor to the global scientific community through invited lectures, educational sessions, and conference presentations. He has received travel grants from the International Society for Pharmacoepidemiology (ISPE) to participate in its conferences in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, and the United States, and has served as an Educational Session Speaker at ISPE conferences in Australia, China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and India. He also received a travel grant from the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR) to attend the ISPOR European Congress in Austria and was a fully sponsored delegate at The Global Health Network Conference 2022 held at the University of Cape Town, South Africa.
His expertise in systematic reviews and meta-analyses has led to numerous high-impact publications in leading peer-reviewed journals. He presented his research on "Statin Use and Risk of Parkinson's Disease" at the 20th World Congress on Parkinson's Disease and Related Disorders in Geneva, Switzerland. To date, he has authored more than 140 scientific publications, which have collectively received over 1,700 citations, with an h-index of 21 and an i10-index of 28. He has also delivered more than 230 invited lectures and workshops at national and international forums on pharmacoepidemiology, pharmacovigilance, pharmacoeconomics, clinical pharmacy, and evidence synthesis.
Dr. Undela is actively involved in several international professional organizations. He currently serves as the Coordinator of the International Society of Pharmacovigilance (ISoP) South Asian Chapter, a Member of the International Steering Committee for the ISPE Asian Conference on Pharmacoepidemiology (ACPE), and a member of the ISoP Special Interest Groups on Medication Errors and Drug Safety in Older Patients and the ISPE Pediatric Special Interest Group.
At NIPER Guwahati, Dr. Undela holds several key academic and administrative leadership positions. He serves as the Chairman of the Placement Committee, Principal Investigator of the Technical Resource Hub, and Coordinator of the Adverse Drug Reaction Monitoring Centre, Atal Incubation Centre, and Bio-NEST Incubation Centre, contributing significantly to academic excellence, industry collaboration, innovation, and pharmacovigilance initiatives.
