Question 6: What are the latest developments and where does charity money go?

Answer: Professor Hobart's talk in the webinar (see event replay) covered some of the latest developments. Charities use donations to support MS research and help people with MS. They focus on finding new treatments and improving our lives. Different charities and groups have different focuses and ways of generating money.

The University of Plymouth has a Just Giving Page for its MS Research and uses all the monies raised for its projects such as the SWIMS project.  There is also a local community interest company (CIC) called Transform MS CIC, which generates its own income through commercial activities and deploys it to complete research or service improvement projects in MS.  Both local MS Centres rely on Charity income to support the vital role they play for the MS Community. The two local MS centres are Merlin - Cornwall's Neuro Therapy Centre and South West MS Therapy Centre.

There are also the national charities, who have local groups, such as the MS Society and here they talk about what their research is used for: https://www.mssociety.org.uk/research
