What is NIHR Learn?

NIHR Learn is a Learning Management System used by the NIHR to curate online learning and face-to-face courses. You can use NIHR Learn to access E-learning such as GCP or book onto face-to-face courses like Valid Informed Consent or Introduction to GCP.

How do I Access NIHR Learn?

I have an NIHR account

If you have an NIHR account you can log in at learn.nihr.ac.uk with your NIHR account details.

I do not have an NIHR account

If you do not have an NIHR account you can register at https://portal.nihr.ac.uk/register?app=LMS

Using an approved domain

The website allows you to create a free account using an eligible email address from the list of organisations below:

    • nhs.org.uk

    • nihr.ac.uk

    • ac.uk

    • nhs.scot

    • nhs.uk

    • nhs.net

    • nice.org.uk

    • phe.gov.uk

    • hscni.net

    • doctors.org

    • dh.gsi.gov.uk

    • ct.catapult.org.uk

    • nweh.co.uk

    • cgl.org.uk

    • nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk

If you have an email address with one of the above pre-approved domains you will be displayed with the below screen when entering the email address where you will be able to self register your own account. You will need to complete all of the required fields and check the Terms & Conditions and click “Next” to proceed.

Once complete, you will be provided with the option to link your ORCID ID to your account. Please note, this is not compulsory and it is possible to skip this step by clicking on the “Skip ORCID ID verification” option.

When you have completed the ORCID ID section, you will be provided with the below verification message.

Shortly after, you will receive the following email (Please check your Spam/Junk folder if you’re expecting this email and have not yet received it)

Click on the link provided in the email to confirm and activate your account. This link will take to you to the below screen:

You will receive a final confirmation email notifying you that your account has been successfully registered and activated:

Using a non-approved domain

If you’re email address domain isn’t listed under the “pre-approved domains”, you will be provided with the below screenshot when entering your email address

Here you will need to complete all required fields including a reason as to why the account is required.

Once submitted, you will be provided with the below message:

This form will be forwarded on to the Workforce Development Team, where your request will be reviewed and potentially approved.


If approved, your account will be manually created and you will receive the below email with your new account credentials:
