CLASSES AND OBJECTIVES

In Public Safety 1, students get an overview of all of the professions within emergency services.  This includes telecommunications, firefighting, law enforcement, and emergency medical services.  If conditions allow, we will go on a field trip to the EOC, the Sheriff's Department, Wilmington Police Department, the Courthouse, the local Prison, Novant Health EMS, Wilmington Fire Department, and New Hanover Fire/Rescue Department. We will have guest speakers from these fields as well.  They will also get their FEMA NIMS ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800 certifications through independent study online classes.  This class will be offered in both Fall and Spring of 2023/2024.

In Firefighter Technology 1 & 2, students will achieve North Carolina Office of State Fire Marshal (NCOSFM) certifications that are required for employment as a firefighter.  This is an action packed, hands-on, physical class.  You are REQUIRED to wear turnout firefighter gear and to complete the skills in this class to PASS the course. We will be doing weekly PT and I run this academy para-military style.  Firefighter Technology 1 class will be offered in both the Fall and Spring of 2023 and 2024. Firefighter Technology 2 will be offered in the Spring of 2024.  This course is the completer of the Public Safety academy.  There are certain parts of this course that we need to complete at Cape Fear Community College North Campus Fire Training Facility due to needing the equipment for the skills.  This is a field trip and a field trip form will need to be completed and returned to me signed by a parent.
