I am Carrie Herstine and I serve at the best middle school in southeastern North Carolina - Myrtle Grove Middle. My official title is MTSS Coordinator, but one of my colleagues unofficially named me the Academic and Behavior Success Coach. We think that fits well with what I do on a day-today basis.

MTSS is education lingo for Multi Tiered Systems of Support. You may also hear or see the term Integrated Academic and Behavior Systems. Many people associate "MTSS" strictly with reading and math interventions in the school setting. MTSS is much broader than that and is all about developing and refining a school improvement framework that integrates the academic, behavioral, and social emotional supports for our campus. More importantly, MTSS is about everyone in the community being knowledgeable about that framework and its systems. At Myrtle Grove Middle, we are especially focused on the importance of (tier 1) academic and behavioral curricula that are responsive, relevant, and sustainable for culturally and linguistically diverse learners. We know if we prioritize this then the benefit will be for all learners.
