When you imagine being part of a cohesive group strategically offering facilitation in a coordinated way where it's needed, does your heart say a big YES! to it?
Are you already offering facilitation in your family, synagogue, mosque, church, with activist groups, communities, organizations, or other groups?
Are you interested in the systemic application of this work, committed to nonviolence, and already on a liberation journey in some form?
If so, the Weaving Togetherness Lab may be the next step for you.
The new purpose of the Weaving Togetherness Lab is to generate a synergistic momentum of learning and application between those within NGL and those external to NGL who are giving themselves in service to weaving togetherness within and beyond NGL.
The primary form that we intend learning to take is live, emergent, and dialogical by role playing situations and facilitation from a small group of practitioners within the WTL core group who will be coached by Miki.
In unpacking each step of each process, we anticipate this being a live action, slow motion, deep dive into the consciousness, tools, and moves of togetherness weaving.
This program is focused on a small core group while inviting the larger group to witness, practice, and ask questions. We anticipate that everyone who comes will have rich learnings that they can apply in their contexts. At the same time, we want the learning to happen within a field committed to the accelerated learning of the small group. We trust the paradox: as all commit to focusing on gifting our presence and attention and creating a field of support for the core group to grow their skills and integrate the NGL framework into the actual fabric of their lives, all of us learn and our lives are enriched.
The core group
This core group is formed of people who are within NGL and people who are not and are moved to support us. We envision those who primarily function outside NGL supporting us within NGL with the gift of their love and skill – doing impact digestion, conflict facilitation, and more as well as sharing with us what they are learning through their weaving togetherness work outside NGL, and inviting NGL people to shadow and support them when they facilitate outside NGL, thereby increasing our capacity to do outward facing work over time. Simultaneously, we see those who are functioning within NGL supporting those who are primarily functioning elsewhere to steep in the NGL field, to engage in their own liberation, and to be supported through having NGL people join with them. The net result is what you can see in this diagram:
We offer 30 sessions over the course of the year, organized into 5 series of six sessions each offered at alternating times (to accommodate people from different time zones), with 2-3 weeks break in between. We offer the option of signing up for one series at a time or for a full year, and to join the program later in the year.
For people outside Europe, Africa, and Western Asia, only every other series may work in terms of time zone and they would need to listen to recordings of the other three.
Each session runs for 2.5 hours.
The raw material for each week is based on situations and scenarios from NGL or core group members contexts. Miki is the primary facilitator for the course and either coaches people who facilitate simulated set ups of such scenarios or coaches people who coach people who facilitate (that is a mouthful, isn’t it?). Both facilitation and coaching are editorialized and unpacked for maximum learning of the different skills involved.
The group as a whole is invited to reflect on learnings, to ask questions, and to practice in small groups with some coaching support from the core group.
An embodied understanding of what it means to live and work from within togetherness
A deeper understanding of the systemic lens and its application in facilitation and many other contexts in which togetherness is at stake
An exposure to and immersion in skills rarely taught by anyone else, including the following:
Needs choreography: the moves that support weaving togetherness when the capacity to stay in togetherness isn’t present and we need to compensate for it
Challenging narratives: ways of responding to people when their narratives interfere with togetherness that support them to see each other’s humanity without losing their own dignity and clarity
Tracking: being able to consciously track and make shifts based on purpose, needs, time, people, power, and open loops
Finding the noncontroversial essence: often enough, universal needs do not contain sufficient information for establishing robust enough togetherness to solve problems together, and the noncontroversial essence (a skill from Convergent Facilitation) is more relevant
Identifying thresholds for requests: this is a key skill that supports navigating transitions with care for all in difficult moments
Offering acknowledgments and appreciations: these are specific forms of expression that support togetherness by building bridges and attending to core relational needs
Leaning on transparency to increase trust and capacity: as we make ourselves more human, we ourselves become an entryway into togetherness within the field
We need your orientation to us…
What we want to invite you into is an attitude of support and orientation to what we are doing, and to the purpose of the lab. The synergistic momentum of learning and application the purpose invites is in contrast to what we mean by “knowledge consumption”, inviting us to integrate the learnings in relation to how we live our lives and offer ourselves in service to the whole. Within this, whether you choose to contribute money or not, you are contributing to the greater potential of this synergistic momentum in a sustainable way and to the possibility that, at some point, you may reach sufficient capacity and purpose alignment to join the core group.
If it feels to you like it will be a challenge for you to orient toward us in this way, it may not make sense for you, and us, that you join us at this time.
We anticipate a time coming when we are more settled structurally and when we can offer support in various ways to those who come to the lab from those who will have integrated the learning sufficiently to offer it. And we are not there yet. You are being invited, now, into the formation of a field, with your support, and with confidence that you are likely to grow capacity over time even as you orient to us. Your accurate choice at this time is a vital element of what can support this lab to thrive.
There is no curriculum
The Lab is intended to be completely emergent. We anticipate learning arising from what is happening in the moment at the time. There is no need to attend every week unless this is what you want. The content of each six week series is completely unknown in advance and there is no intention to have any sequence of themes or skills within or between series. We imagine, though, that over time as capacity grows, deeper and subtler nuances may arise.
