Kia ora e te whānau
What a great way to start the week having the Year 9 & 10 whānau join us for dinner. It was lovely to host you and I hope you were able to meet some new faces and get to know your daughter's friends.
Last week, I attended a conference run by NZBSA (NZ Boarding Schools' Association). It was a great opportunity to connect with other Hostel Managers and come away with some new ideas. I also visited a number of other school hostels - all with different merits. But I have to say coming back to Hewett House with fresh eyes, I reflected on what amazing facilities our students have and what a warm and caring environment they live in.
Winter illness is starting to creep in so please keep your daughter at home if she is feeling unwell.
We always value your input and support — whether you're a parent, guardian, or friend of our boarding community. If you have any concerns, feedback, or would just like to drop by for a visit, please don’t hesitate to call, email, or pop in. We’d love to hear from you.
Ngā mihi nui,
Joyce Clark

Thursday 19 June: Hostel closes at 6pm for exeat weekend (Matariki)
Sunday 22 June: Hostel opens from 3pm
Friday 27 June: Hostel closes at 6pm for end of Term 2
Despite some beautiful Autumn weather, the number of COVID-19 cases and other seasonal illnesses is rising.
Just a reminder that we do have clear procedures in place for students who are missing NCEA assessments or are requesting an extension because of illness. We usually ask for a medical certificate to support the application, but appreciate that this is sometimes not possible. In such cases, students should initially contact our Principal’s nominee, Rachel Roberts rroberts@nghs.school.nz.
Please note that holidays during term time, and leaving school early for the weekend or end of term, are not legitimate reasons for a missed assessment.
Student health and wellbeing is a priority, and if your daughter is symptomatic and unwell, please keep her off school.
Ngā mihi

Kia ora.
What a fantastic week we’ve had at Hewett House. The four hostel houses competed in our exciting traditional event, the Newspaper Challenge. The houses dressed up two rangatahi from each house based on a theme of their choice. Each house put on an outstanding performance, with Green and Gold in third equal, Red in second and a well deserved win to Blue house who had a solo performer with the theme of Jo Jo Siwa. Great teamwork was shown by all our boarders. It was an amazing competition filled with talent, laughter and great creativity.
After a lovely long weekend, we welcomed our Year 9 & 10 whānau for dinner where there was much bonding, smiles and many memories made. Another wonderful week here at Hewett.
Kia pai to wiki :)

A Quick Reminder
If you're feeling unwell or showing any signs of illness, please stay home and take the time you need to recover. Your health — and the health of others — comes first.
Boarding Finances
Please contact hostelfinance@nghs.school.nz if you have any questions regarding your hostel account.
Change to 5 / 7 Day Status
If your daughter is wanting to change her boarding status ie to 5 day or 7 day this needs to come to the Hostel Manager in writing please.
Sunday Late Dinners
If you require a late/saved dinner on a Sunday night this MUST be booked by 12.00pm on the Sunday by putting your name on the list at the office preferably before you leave on Friday afternoon. If you have not booked a late/saved dinner you will be able to have toast and spreads. We hope you can appreciate that our kitchen team need to be able to plan for accurate numbers. It is very difficult for them when suddenly they need to find 15 – 20 extra servings. Thanks for your support with this.
Special Dietary Students
Please remember that if you have listed yourself as a special dietary requirement you are expected to honour this and not change your mind as something else appeals, the kitchen staff are going to considerable effort to cater for your needs. Once again, thank you for your support.
We love celebrating successes at Hewett House.
If you have some news (and/or photos) we would love to hear about it so we can include it in future pānui editions :)
