From our Head of Secondary

It is staggering to think that we are already half way through February and that the Year of the Pig has well and truly started! There is a real momentum at school and learners in all years are focused on big goals from Learning Exhibitions to IGCSE and IB examinations. As well as everything that is happening in the classrooms, life outside has continued at a high pace too.

The school has launched the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme to learners in Years 9 & 10 this academic year. Led by Mr Jefferson, there has been huge interest and take up, with around 40% of possible learners opting to take part. After some initial training in the last month they went on their first practice expedition last weekend, managing two walks, at least one attempt at cooking a meal and camping overnight on the school field. Recent trips include our Computer Scientists visiting the quickest Supercomputer in South East Asia and our Year 9 learners visiting a British warship to learn more about the relationship between the UK and Singapore to support their current curriculum work. Nexus Beats was a fabulous event, an opportunity for all musicians to perform to a live audience. We were treated to some excellent performances throughout the age groups and all participants should be congratulated on a great show.

We have several learners in Years 7,8,9 participating in the Model United Nations debates at OFS this weekend, starting today. MUN is an excellent programme and promotes public speaking and critical thinking. We wish our young delegates every success.

As you may have seen, our new school building is taking shape rapidly with the windows being the most noticeable addition in the last few weeks. As we go through the year we will continue to update you with progress and the various initiatives around our move to the east coast.
