Today's Wear It Pink Day was another reminder of what can be achieved as a community. Year 13 learners led the whole event which involved working with many stakeholders, both inside and outside of the school. They arranged event marketing, led assemblies, sold ribbons, organised a bake sale and collected monies. However, so many learners were involved at all levels, ranging from running Primary Assemblies to baking cakes, to coordinating money collection. We will share the total once it has been counted.
On Tuesday evening 25 Year 10 learners went to Credit Suisse for the launch of the Young Founders School, a creative initiative to encourage entrepreneurship - read the report here. The learners are going to spend the whole weekend working hard to come up with an outstanding concept in order to win the competition and we wish them (and Mr Bevan) every success.
Last week's Year 12 Art visits to the Tyler Print Institute taught new techniques and sowed many creative seeds in our learners as they seek inspiration for their ongoing IB coursework.
Peter Bezgoubov in Year 11 wrote about his IGCSE Humanities curriculum trip to China for Expat Living Magazine and was delighted to see his work make it into print in this month's edition. He was set the challenge of describing what was an amazing experience in fewer than 300 words, a feat which he achieved most admirably. I am sure there will be a few copies left for those wishing to see his work!
Some learners in Years 10-13 are enjoying the challenge of the National Youth Achievement Award (NYAA), and the group completed another intensive training session on Thursday evening ahead of their upcoming first overnight camp.
Bug Busting Day on Wednesday was a timely reminder about personal hygiene and used coloured hair spray to pass on the important message about washing hair regularly to remove head lice.
The Hallowe'en Disco was beautifully organised by the NPG and our Year 12 learners and was a hugely enjoyable event. Learners really appreciated the time and effort that was out into decorating the school and making the very scary ghostly walk. We are very grateful to all involved in making this event happen and we also thank those learners that were providing the excellent music and entertainment.
Lots of our Year 11 and Year 13 learners are coming against coursework deadlines at the moment and this can be a stressful time of year, no matter which year group you are in. The upcoming 'R U OK?' week, which is being organised by the School Counsellor and the Support 65 learners, aims to throw a light on mental health and encourage us all to think about our mental wellbeing, as well as that of those around us. It is our first such themed week of this kind and we are all looking forward to the focus on a different feeling each day.
We are very excited about welcoming some top international swimmers to our pool next Friday, including Olympians, who will be running a clinic with some of our elite swimmers prior to the swim meet after school. More details can be found here.
