The Next Generation Scholars food pantry provides food for ~40 low-income families in San Rafael California daily. From 2 pm- 4pm every Sunday, "Food Justice for All" ensure families have quality, locally-sourced food to eat for the week.
The WHY
The WHY
The goal is to give healthy organic food to low-income minority families who do not have access to it. At contrast to the unhealthy, low-cost food sold in Marin's local markets, the food pantry has fed 28 families with organic, non-GMO food. I hope that by offering food that promotes a healthy diet, I hope influence a favorable attitude toward organic food, which many people do not have access to. With local organic businesses such as Whole Foods and Sprouts selling consumables at exorbitant rates, the NGS food bank has given low-income families the opportunity to eat organic food.
The HOW
The HOW
I organize and distribute food to families enlisted in the food pantry. During each food drive, I greet families in Spanish and record their names using a Google Sheets form. Before distributing the food, I ensure that each family's dietary needs are accommodated, so everyone receives the appropriate foods.
