Dear families,
I hope you all enjoyed the weekend and stayed safe as lock down restrictions were eased. I know we are all looking forward to the long summer holiday with life slowly getting back to normal but before then we have a number of key events here at school.
Reports
This week we will be sharing your child's report with you. This report will be available to collect from the school office from 9.00am until 12.00pm on Wednesday 8th. Reports will be given to the children attending school to be taken home. The remaining reports will be posted to families at the end of the day. Please let us know if you have any problems with these arrangements. If you would like to speak to your child's class teacher about the reports, the office will be able to book you a slot for next week.
Year 6
Thursday is a special day for our year six children as we wish them a formal farewell at their graduation. Children have been split into their classes and one member of each family will be able to attend to celebrate with the children. I am sure you are all keeping a close eye on the weather and at the moment it does not look positive. As the graduation is intended to be an outdoors event you will be informed the day before if we need to change plans. The year six really deserve a special send off so fingers crossed the rain holds off! On Friday the children in year 6 will have one final special meal with their peers but we want to keep the details a surprise, but trust me it will be memorable.
Final day at school
Children who are currently attending Shacklewell will finish this Friday 10th, unless they are attending the key worker provision. If you are unsure which group your child is in then please speak with myself or any school leader at the school gates in the morning.
Transition Week
Next week is an opportunity for your child to come to school for either a morning or afternoon session to meet their class teacher for next year. The letter informing you about their class and teacher for next year will be included in the reports envelope. Unfortunately each group is designed to meet current social distancing guidelines and therefore we cannot move children's allocated time. Please see the breakdown of the week below:
Monday 13th- current nursery children will transition to reception
Monday 13th- current year 4 will transition to year 5
Tuesday 14th- current year 5 will transition to year 6
Wednesday 15th- current reception will transition to year 1
Wednesday 15th- current year 3 will transition to year 4
Thursday 16th- current year 1 will transition to year 2
Thursday 16th- current year 2 will transition to year 3
School will then close to all children on Friday 17th July, and will reopen to pupils on Monday 7th September. Echoing Ms. Reid's sentiments from earlier today as a school and a wider Federation we are carefully planning how school reopen in the new academic year. These plans are in line with the updated guidance from the Department for Education, published last week. You can expect to receive further details from school by the start of next week.
Year 5 - Secondary Transition
Last week, we wrote to you about children who are going to be starting year 6 in September, our current year 5 classes, and their transition to secondary school. Please read this letter and click this link to find out more about open evenings in the coming months.
Online Safety
Unfortunately it has come to our attention at school that a greater number of our children are using social media apps. We understand that the period of lockdown has lead to children spending more time on their devices but it is our job as adults to show the right way to interact with technology. To that end, may I remind all families that social media apps, including WhatsApp, TikTok, Twitter and Discord are restricted to users of at least 13 or over. To support families in key stage two with internet safety, we are hosting a webinar on Tuesday 14th. Please register your interest in attending the webinar by clicking this link.
As always let me know if you have any questions.
Have a great week,
Rory
