Dear families,
What a spectacular weekend weather wise- I hope you were all able to get out and enjoy some socially distanced walks and meetings with family and friends.
To those families educating their children at home I want to take this opportunity to say thank you. Your work and dedication to the children is really incredible. Whilst we miss them terribly at school we can see that they are all making some fantastic progress with their learning at home.
Here at school we have been busy getting prepared for the next academic year and as a result I have some very important key dates to share with you.
This year the school reports will be sent home on Wednesday 8th July. The reports will outline the progress of the children this year, including work done since lock down began. We have adapted the format of the reports this year to balance discussion of the wider curriculum and the core subjects of reading, writing and mathematics.
Also being sent out on Wednesday 8th July are the letters informing you of your child's class for the next academic year. These letters will explain who your child's class teacher will be and which classroom your child will work in. As always these lists are thought through in great detail by the teachers and leaders. This means that any adaptations after the publication of the letters are not possible. This year we have paid particular attention to the fact that a majority of the children had an abrupt end to their school year and this has had a direct impact on our decisions for next year.
It is unfortunately the time of year when we have to say goodbye to our pupils in Year 6. We recognise too that these children have had an unconventional final year with us. To help them to say a formal and memorable goodbye we are intending to host a socially distanced graduation on Thursday 9th July. More details will be shared soon but I am pleased to be able to offer this to the children, because up until very recently it didn't seem possible.
As you will be able to see from the letter sent today, and the dates below, school finishes for all pupils, except the key worker children, on Friday 10th July. This will enable the school to host a week of socially distanced and safe transition sessions for all classes. These sessions are a fantastic opportunity for the children to work with their new teacher and in their new classroom. You will be advised of the specific time for you child's session in the letter outlining their new class on the 8th July. We will be providing our final home learning booklet in this week too, focused on revision of key learning from across the year.
The highs and lows of the 2019/2020 academic year will come to a close on Friday 17th July when the provision for key worker children will finish.
I appreciate that there is a great deal of dates and information in today's bulletin so if you would like any clarity or to speak to a member of the team, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
Have a great week,
Rory
