it is finally summer and it couldn't have be a better week for the sun to come out because this Wednesday is Sports Day! We can not wait to welcome you all to Finsbury Park from 10.00am on Wednesday 26th June. The children all need to come dressed in their house colour. If they are unsure about this then check with their class teacher tomorrow. We are also expecting a warm day on Wednesday so please ensure the children are wearing sun screen and a hat. It would also be beneficial if the children were sent with additional water to ensure they stayed hydrated. I hope you have all been limbering up too, because the annual parent race is a real highlight for the children!
Looking ahead to next week, and it is a very exciting one for us here at Shacklewell because Reception through to Year 6 are heading out for an amazing trip to celebrate the end of a fantastic year. Reception are going to the Coram Fields on Monday 1st and the children in Year 1 will be heading to the same destination the next day, Tuesday 2nd. Year 2 have the chance to explore the Princess Diana memorial garden on Wednesday 3rd July. On Thursday 4th, Year 3 and 4 are boarding their chartered train to Chalkwell Beach, followed by Year 5 and 6 the next day, Friday 5th. The children are incredibly excited about the trips so please ensure their permission slips are returned as soon as possible. We have limited spaces for parents to come along and support the teachers on these trips, so if you would like to come and are comfortable being responsible for a small group of children, please leave you name and the dates you are available at the office.
I wanted to take this opportunity to celebrate the success of Street Play on Friday afternoon. It was delightful to see the children playing with their school friends. The chalk drawings and ball games was reminiscent of my own childhood in Northern Ireland, so a huge thank you to the Shacklewell Families team for making it possible. Up next for Shacklewell Families, is the Summer Fair on 6th July. For more information please check the Shacklewell Families section.
Hackney have released the new term dates for the next academic year, and these include the change to the May Bank holiday to commemorate VE day. Please check these before any holidays are booked to avoid taking the children out of school during term time.
Have a great week and I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on Wednesday,
Rory

The children at Shacklewell continue to be exposed to an incredible range of sporting opportunities. Last week a group of Year 3 and 4 footballers were invited to compete at Tottenham Hotspur's training ground and came fourth in the competition. We also had a team of swimmers achieve great success at the Hackney swimming gala including silver and gold medals.
Alongside this we had a team of orienteering novices learn how to navigate their way around Clissold Park this afternoon and they thoroughly enjoyed the new experience. We have also developed strong sporting links with Petchy Academy in our after school provision. As a result children have been exposed to the varied sporting experiences and have become passionate about new games and equipment, we couldn't otherwise provide.
What I am incredibly proud to say is that all the children have represented the school with dignity, continuously demonstrating exemplary behaviour and a fantastic team spirit.
