As we begin the last week of this incredibly busy half term I am very pleased to share some great news with you all. The Governing Board in conjunction with Hackney Learning Trust have appointed the new Executive Headteacher for the New Wave Federation- Ms Nicole Reid. At Shacklewell we are very proud that Nicole has been recognised for her passion and commitment to the children of the New Wave Federation and know that her drive to improve all children's opportunities will continue. I am sure you will all join us in celebrating this exciting next step for our school and the wider New Wave Federation.
Looking back to last Friday, it was delightful to see the children enjoying their treat day so much. Their were squeals of joy and delight as the children in the EYFS played in the ball pits and on the bouncy castles. The children in Year 1,2 and 3 had an 'incredible' time at the cinema and whilst the tone of the film was more sombre for Years 4, 5 and 6, they very much enjoyed their treat.
It was great to see the children in Year 6 unwind at the park after their week of tests. They have worked so very very hard throughout the year and really deserved the rest. The results will be available towards the middle of July so in the meantime the children in Year 6 are throwing themselves into the end of year production. The show is on the 15th July and tickets will be available after the half term break.
Coming up this week is the Sex and Relationships Education parent session on Thursday 23rd May. A letter is being sent home today explaining more about the session. I highly recommend that if you have any questions about the content we cover during this topic that you attend the sessions.
It is our intention to celebrate our learning this half term so please join us on Friday 24th 2.00pm-3.00pm for the 'Our Green Earth' showcase. Each class will be open for you to explore and the children will be ready to talk to you about their learning this half term. There is no need to book but we do ask that if you are coming, that you arrive close to 2.00pm. I am really looking forward to seeing as many of you there as possible and I know the children cannot wait to show you their amazing work.
Have an excellent week,
Rory

Sunday was a day of triumph for the children at Shacklewell. 55 children from Years 4, 5, and 6 took to the streets of Hackney to complete their half marathon.
The children have been clocking up one mile a week every Friday after school for the last 12 weeks. Sunday was their opportunity to run with all the other schools in the borough and to claim a very impressive medal. Illness ruled me out but the children were joined by several members of the Shacklewell team including the marvellous Bev who coordinated the whole event for us.
If you have been impressed by the children's drive and commitment then please add to the growing fundraising page here.
Remember that we are a VOLUNTEER parent/guardian led fundraising body that puts on fun events to raise money for the school.
Anyone in the Shacklewell school community can volunteer at any time.
Get ready bakers…….
Categories to be announced soon for our bake off competition. These will include best tasting, best overall and best of the worst. Not forgetting best cake made by a teacher!
If anyone knows Paul Hollywood or Prue then please do ask them to come and judge!
Judging will be completed before 3.30 so the winners can be announced straight after school.
A fun free event where the street outside the school is closed off to traffic. The children can play out on the street for an hour after school.
All children must be supervised by an adult and we will also have designated wardens (volunteer parents & carers).

We have a standard business donation request letter for your use should you wish to source prizes. Please let us know beforehand if you plan to target any businesses.

Dance workshops or yoga classes, theatre tickets, children’s theatre classes, climbing lessons, hair products etc.
You are able to bid on the item that you want either online or on the day. Highest bidder wins the prize.
