July is finally here and with it comes hotter temperatures and several huge school events. Please see the Key Dates section and the below section on Year 6 to find out more about them.
As a school we are beginning to think very carefully about the next year and I can confirm that the class lists are being finalised at the moment. This information will be shared with families on Monday 15th in a letter which will confirm the children's class and teacher. On Wednesday 17th, 'Moving Up Day', the children will then spend part of the morning with their new class and their new teacher.
Looking ahead to the more immediate future and it is the Shacklewell Summer Fair this Saturday, 12.30pm to 4.00pm. Come along to enjoy the sights and sounds of Shacklewell's Got Talent, the tastes of some world cooking and enjoy the fun and games put on by Shacklewell Families. If you can help out in any way then please check out the Shacklewell Families section at the end of the bulletin.
I am pleased now to be able to put you all out of your misery and announce the winners of Sports Day! The houses were only separated by 22 points from fourth to first. In fourth position was Kingsland with 800 points, then Dalston with 804. Runners up were Amhurst with 812 which means with a grand total of 822 the winners of Sports Day 2019 were Ridley! Congratulations to all the children for their sheer determination and focus and a massive thank you to the families who cheered us on all day!
Keep your eyes on our Twitter feed this week as the children across the school enjoy their reward trips.

Children, parents and teachers having a great time at Sports Day 2019
Sports Day was a huge, whole school success but I am pleased to let you know that there were other great sporting moments throughout last week.
The children in the Year 3 football team achieved the almighty feat of winning the Clissold Cup. This annual competition has never been won by Shacklewell before and it was so special that the children were proudly supported by so many families. I am excited to see where this team will go next!
Last week was also Bike Around the Borough, a celebration of pedal power and sustainable travel throughout Hackney. Year 5 children had the opportunity to cycle the 9 mile course accompanied by teachers, and at one point Mayor of Hackney Philip Glanville. The children had a great day and were great role models for the school throughout.
As we enter July, our Year 6 children begin their final month with us here at Shacklewell. The children are already looking ahead to their new schools and a majority of them will have a taste of secondary school on Thursday 4th July as part of transition day.
Whilst the children are preparing to move on to the next chapter, we are going to make sure their last three weeks with us are very memorable. On Friday 5th July they are heading to Chalkwell Beach as a celebration trip. The 15th July is the children's chance to show off their singing and dancing during their two performances of 'Circus'. Please be sure to get your tickets if you have not done so already.
Thursday 18th is a big day for the Year 6 children as they will say their final goodbye during their Graduation which begins at 2.00pm. This formal ceremony will then be followed by a party at school between 4.00pm and 6.00pm. A letter with further details will be coming out shortly, but in the meantime I am sure you will join me in wishing the Year 6 children a very positive end to their time at Shacklewell.
