30th April

Update from MS. Reid

'Our Come Learn With Me' sessions have been one of the most successful events we have hosted here at Shacklewell. Families were able to see how amazing creativity blends perfectly with children's growing confidence and ability to use technology in their learning on an everyday basis at Shacklewell. A big thank you to all the staff for organizing such inspiring and creative sessions.

Sometimes it is the individual that we need to highlight and celebrate. This week it surely must be Mr.Dowling in Year 2. You may remember he sustained severe injuries cycling to work last year. Not only has he fully recovered but he has recently qualified for next years' London Marathon with a superb qualifying time of 2 hours 44 minutes. Of course we need to mention all of our Year 4, 5 and 6 runners still training every Friday to take part in the Hackney half marathon on Sunday 20th May. This annual Hackney celebration encapsulates the qualities we all admire at Shacklewell; determination, resilience and sheer will power to keep going, even when it gets tough. We are proud of all our runners!

I would like to take this opportunity to remind all parents that when we are on the school premises, it is crucially important that we model very high standards of behaviour by ensuring that we speak and act respectfully to others.

A personal thank you to all our willing volunteers who continue to support our school to be a successful place to play and learn.

Finally, whatever you have planned for the bank holiday weekend, I hope the sun comes out and brightens and warms your days. School restarts on Tuesday 8th May at the usual time of 8.55am.

Have a lovely week.

Learning Across the school

Thus term has already demonstrated the qualities that we strive for at Shacklewell.

The children in the 2YO and Nursery have been watching their garden grow, tending to their newly planted herbs.

There has been creative learning across the school and the Reception children's self portraits encapsulate this quality.

We had resilient learners in Year 3 SFA when the children had to use evidence to develop their comprehension skills whilst studying Room 13.

The children in Year 4 also had a chance to design a periscope to try and understand how light travels as part of their IPC topic, Bright Sparks.

The children have asked big questions in Year 5 as they have tried to create solutions for our need for renewable sources of energy in conjunction with their topic, Feel the Force.

Keep your eyes peeled for even more exciting learning to come this term!

UPdate from Shacklewell families

Name Change!

It is official! After our morning meeting on Friday 27th April we are pleased to announce that Shacklewell Families has been officially adopted as the new name for SPA.

Our events bring together the whole school community, including wider families and the children themselves so we wanted our name to reflect this.

The communications, social media accounts etc. are now being gradually switched over to the new name.

We are look forward to working with our whole community at our upcoming events.

HACKNEY HALF MARATHON: SUNDAY 20TH MAY

Not long now until our team of children, staff and parents hit the pavements for the Hackney Half Marathon.

The children have been working hard already, clocking up a mile each Friday night after school. Last week they had to do 100 laps of the hall, because the weather was so bad!

On race day the whole team will run the final mile together so if you could please help our runners reach their fundraising goal, by clicking the link and donating what you can; https://www.gofundme.com/shacklewellparents

Come Learn With ME

'Come Learn with Me' has been a big success this half term.

We have had Year 3 families becoming film makers using Clips and Year 4 families becoming product designers for their IPC topic, Bright Sparks.

The families in Year 3 had to explain how forces impacted their daily life and then create a movie to demonstrate this. Thanks to the whole Year 3 team for coming up with such a creative experience for our families.

The Year 4 families had to create a new product that combined lights and sounds to improve our lives. Thank you to Mr Heath and Ms McGuinness for organising such an inspiring and enlightening occasion.

This Thursday is the turn of Year 5 and their families; we cannot wait to see what they produce!
