Update from MS. Reid

Dear all,

First, a big thank you to team Shacklewell led by Mr Middleburg who, with a little help from the sunny skies, brought us a sensational and sizzling sports day last week. We encourage participation and competitiveness and it was wonderful to see how many of you came along to cheer and even compete. I do hope those hamstrings are still supple as they ought to be. It was lovely to see that we have so many talented athletes at Shacklewell. I am pleased to announce the winner of the trophy was Ridley! Well done to them for their skills and resilience.

The new Reception pupils also had a great day at the Teddy Bears picnic settling in and having fun. Once again thank you to all the representatives, who came along from Shackelwell Families and Parent Council to support the Early Years team led by Ms Mourat and Mr Spencer.

Creativity and challenge are huge motivational tools across the Federation and so it is no surprise that the Year 5 pupils, who have been making films in collaboration with the British Film Institute on the Southbank, attended the hugely successful screening of their efforts last Friday. Well done to all involved for your hard work and dedication.

This week our Year 6 rehearsals for the end year show,'The Great Island Race' continue. The children will be performing at BSix college, in Clapton along side the other Year 6 pupils across the federation. It is the very first time we have done such huge collaboration on stage and we are all looking forward to this amazing show.

Finally, the summer Fair is this Saturday starting at 12pm and the team are still looking for volunteers. Please get in contact with any member of the team, who is in the playground at drop offs and let them know. Please come along and support the school by bringing lots of money. We always need your support and the atmosphere at the fair is something you truly do not want to miss, friendly, family fun for all!

British Film INstitute

Last Friday our children in Year 5 got to experience the sights and sounds at the British Film Institute.

Throughout the year the children have been planning, filming and editing their videos and Friday was the culmination of their endeavours.

All of the team at the BFI were blown away by the quality and standard of the films and this movie about overcoming bullying received particular plaudits.

Talents abound at Shacklewell and it is in these intense meaningful liaisons with a myriad of outside agencies when it shines through. Congratulations Year 5 -our film makers of tomorrow.

Well done to all the children!

App of the WEEK

Keynote is back and it is better than ever!

Following hot the heels of the Pages update we shared with you last week Keynote has had its own make over.

Available on any Apple device, Keynote can now be used as a teleprompter, you can use Magic Move to make fantastic films and you can incorporate your own sketches into presentations.

Definitely worth a look for a home learning presentation, a working model of the water cycle or an interactive reading journal.

Who to follow on Twitter?

All of our teachers are on Twitter and they love to share the learning of their children.

Instead of waiting for the school account to retweet them, why not go directly to the teacher's accounts?

Here are a few to get you started.
