3rd February

Dear families,

this Friday is our first ever 'Festival of Reading'. This celebration of books will allow the children to explore poetry, new authors and hear new stories. Thank you to those of you who have gifted books to school- there is still time to donate to our book drive and we will continue to welcome your preloved children's books throughout the year. Two of the authors that are visiting on Friday are relatively new in children's literature- JD Okoro who is a writer of graphic novels and Mary Richards who publishes beautifully illustrated journals for young explorers. Both authors will be selling copies of their books at a special price for Shacklewell families. You will be able to find them in the library after school on Friday. We are really looking forward to this whole school event which will continue to develop our children's love of reading.

I am very pleased to announce that we have two very exciting playground projects starting later in the spring term. To begin with, we will be developing the area behind the Pre School Provision to create a wonderful space for exploration for our very youngest learners. Part two of this project will focus on the grass bank between KS1 and KS2. We have designed an incredible collection of apparatus for our children in Year 3 - 6 including a giant slide, a treetop walk and an orchard. Both these projects will be completed by the same company who built our current KS1 playground so I know the results are going to be spectacular. I will share more information next week!

Finally, I wanted to say how great it was to share our hall displays with you all on Friday afternoon. The children were so proud to share their work with you all. If you would like to come in and see the hall displays then just ask at the office at the end of the day.

Have a great week,

Rory

Hello! I'm Rachel, the chair of Shacklewell Parent Council. I am mum to Jessie in Year 1 and Samson in Nursery. Shacklewell Parent Council meets every half term and is a chance for parents and carers to find out more about what is going on at school. It is also a chance for parents and carers to ask questions, make suggestions and raise any issues that affect the whole school. You can propose items for the agenda even if you cannot make the meetings.
