16th March
Dear families,
during these difficult times, Shacklewell will remain open unless otherwise instructed by the government or local authority. Please see the letter from Thursday last week which outlines the school's position- Covid-19. School trips, visits and extra curricular activities are continuing as normal because we are committed to providing the security of a regular day at school for our children.
Whilst it is a trying time for all families we are asking those of you who can spare some non-perishable food (pasta, rice, tinned goods) and toiletries to please donate what you can to those families in need. We have set up a collection point at the front of school and would appreciate any donations you can provide.
As outlined in my letter earlier today school has decided to postpone Parent's evening- Parents Evening letter. We understand this will be a disappointment to families but we want as many of you to attend so postponing is the best course of action at this point.
If you are looking for support in how to speak to your family and children about Coronavirus these resources from the Hackney WAMHS team may help- Talking to Children about Coronavirus.
Over the coming days school will be communicating with families via Xpressions, email and Twitter. Please can I ask that if you have recently changed your email address or phone number that you let us know immediately. We want to make sure that important messages are communicated with all families in a timely fashion.
Thank you for your ongoing support during these unprecedented times and do not hesitate to speak with me if you have any questions or concerns,
Rory

Last week we had several reasons to celebrate writing at Shacklewell as our children demonstrated how they can write successfully for different audiences and purposes. You may have seen on Twitter that year 1 have been reading their stories to children in the preschool and year 4 have been busy trying to reach out to Hackney Council to persuade them to increase the number of cycle lanes in the borough. In reception some of our very youngest writers have been relishing the opportunity to retell and write parts of their favourite fairy tales too.
The children in all year groups are demonstrating brilliant effort in improving their presentation and handwriting. Take a look at the superb progress from these year four children. We know it takes a lot of resilience and practice to keep presentation to such a high standard and so we are really proud of the dedication from these learners.
