we are approaching the end of a great half term here at Shacklewell. The children have made brilliant progress across their learning. The school has continued to focus on reading and as a result children have developed their love of stories alongside their attainment. Please see below to find out more about our inaugural Festival of Reading.
This term's curriculum has been history focused. The children have made deep connections between their previous historical learning whilst developing a greater sense of how historical events impact on our current world. Next half term we will emphasise the science curriculum but we will continue to incorporate the links between history and geography throughout the children's learning. Look out for the new knowledge organisers and maker mats in the first week back, which will explain the year group specific learning in more detail.
This week will see the preparations for our exciting playground works begin. The project will work in two phases. First the builders will work in the nursery garden to expand into the nature area. This new space will incorporate a river, willow branch shelters and challenging climbing apparatus- just perfect for our youngest explorers. Secondly the builders will open the grass bank between KS1 and KS2. This area will be transformed into a haven for imaginative play for our children in Year 3 - Year 6. There will of course be some disruption to facilitate this project but it has been planned carefully and sensitively to minimise the impact on the school day.
A reminder that this Friday at 9.00am is Parent Council were I look forward to meeting with as many of you as possible to provide an update on the school and to hear your feedback.
I hope you all have a restful and enjoyable half term break,
Rory

Our Festival of Reading on Friday was a huge success. The children and teachers absolutely loved the day.
Children learnt about new authors and shared their learning with their next door class, they learnt a poem off by heart, created a new bookmark, worked with visiting authors and illustrators and tucked into a tasty lunch themed around children's books. After all of that excitement the children settled into a Jackanory session with adults from across the school reading their favourite children's story.
The children also got to take home a memento of the day because the entire school was able to visit the library and select a new book to take home. This commitment from the school emphasises the importance we place on reading and I am pleased to say that the Festival of Reading will be returning next year.
Next on the reading horizon is World Book Day, Thursday 5th March. More details of our plans will be shared in the first week back.
Disco Fever
We have only just recovered from the excitement of the disco on Friday- what a fantastic evening! Thank you so much to all of you who came and made it such a success. We absolutely loved seeing everyone’s fantastic dance skills, and how much fun was had by all. We are thrilled to say we raised £538.53!
A huge thank you to our wonderful MC Matthew, and our resident Dad DJ’s Tom and Ben who played the best tunes and kept everyone on the dance floor. Thank you to Georgia and Olivia for providing sensational face painting, and to the group of very talented year 5 and 6 students who stepped in to paint nails! A massive thank you to all the parents and carers who donated food, cakes, popcorn and sweets to sell, and an equally big thank you to the parents who helped us run the event.
