19th February

Welcome back! If you have been lucky to get away, spent time in London, visiting attractions and museums or traveled further a field on days out, I am sure you are all ready and recharged for even more exciting learning this half term.

It was lovely to hear the children sharing some of their half term highlights with their friends over breakfast this morning. Some of the places they mentioned were, an afternoon at the British Library seeing the Harry Potter Exhibition, Art and Science workshop at the Crick Institute and a day out in Greenwich to see the Cutty Sark.

Bulletin

Shacklewell Parents Association (SPA) is a huge part of the school community, without their work we simply could not carry on. We are urgently seeking your help and support by asking you to join this group of volunteers to continue to make our school a wonderful place for our children to play and learn.

On Friday 2nd March we will be holding a coffee morning to encourage all parents to find out more about SPA. We will be asking parents to sign up to whatever teams they feel they can help with.

SPA organises and run several key events throughout the school year and their fund raising activities help pupils in so many ways.

Did you know that SPA contributed £2435 for the children to attend our annual trip to the theatre and a further £500 for anti bullying workshops for the entire school?

The next SPA meeting is this Friday 23rd February, where we will be discussing and finalising plans/teams for upcoming SPA events. Everyone is welcome to come along and contribute.

You may have heard or even seen on television that the Federation received an incredible accolade for its work in promoting digital learning.

Education Secretary Rt Hon. Damien Hinds visited our sister school Woodberry Down.

Coming straight from 10 Downing Street, he was very impressed with our pupils and staff!

For the first fortnight of the new half-term, each year group will be looking in depth a powerful book, play or poem. The aim is to learn how to become better writers ourselves by reading and analysing how great literature is written.

Please take a moment to ask your child about the book they are studying and help them develop their understanding of the text through drama and art activities at home. You may also wish to borrow copies from your local libraries or purchase them from a bookshop.

As a reminder, please keep up with the weekly spellings practice, complete some reading journal entries and complete your weekly maths homework.

We already have some beautiful and creative projects coming into school from our Spring Maker Mats. Please remember the ones from Spring 1 will be carrying on into this term. You can bring any work completed during the half term into school at anytime

Finally, the Shacklewell team are all looking forward to another 6 exciting weeks of great partnership with our families!
