Dear families, it seems like only yesterday that I was writing to you- this week has flown by! The children have really been working hard on their handwriting and it has been hugely enjoyable to see the their focus and resilience. Their is a real sense of pride around the school as the children develop this part of their academic skills.
Handwriting progress from across the school. The left image is earlier in the term and the right is this week.
Coming up next week is Anti Bullying Week. The school has a huge array of activities planned for all children, including the Shacklewell Families funded Konflux Theatre “Play in a Day’. On Monday all children and staff are encouraged to come to school in odd socks to promote the message that we are all unique. The theme for this year’s anti bullying week is #ChooseRespect and this will be the message we will be promoting throughout the week. Our message of respect will be extended to online safety which we will weave into our anti-bullying work to make the connections between the children’s real world and online lives.
May I take this opportunity to remind you that our school Twitter account is the best place for you to find out what is happening in your child’s class and across the school. Please follow us @ShacklewellE8.
I am extremely proud to announce that Shacklewell, as part of the New Wave Federation, has been reaccredited as an Apple Distinguished School. This mark of success acknowledges the innovate way that our community of schools uses iPad to promote curiosity, develop understanding and create new opportunities for our children. If you would like to find out more about this approach then please click the link to read our new book, ‘The Power of Choice’, which outlines our journey with technology.
This week we held our first 'Come learn with Me' of the academic year.
The children in year six were joined by their parents and families to create short movies using iPad.
The children were given the opportunity to demonstrate their skills using several applications to blend images, sound and text.
The end result was some very funny videos and some great acting from the parents!
Our next 'Come Learn with Me' is the 22nd November for Year 5- we look forward to seeing you there.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to Fright Night last Friday. Lots of families volunteered which made the event run smoothly, and lots of families came along to enjoy the spooky fun.
Through your contributions we raised £772 to put towards equipment and extra activities to enhance the school lives of all our children.
Our next event is on the horizon, the Christmas Fair, Friday 7th December from 3.45 - 5.45pm and we need your help!
Could you help design or build Santa’s Grotto? Perhaps you are able to donate raffle prizes?
We always we rely on people to contribute a bit of their time; are you able to help out? We will need support making decorations, setting up, running stalls, helping in the kitchen and clearing up afterwards.
Could you contribute a dish for our kitchen, or, make some chutney, jam or chilli sauce for us to sell. Whatever your speciality, we’d like to sell it in the market section of our fair.
There will be a an extra Christmas Fair planning meeting next Thursday at 9am to finalise our plans
