Friday 2nd November

Update from Mr. McGrath

Dear families,

autumn is really here. I am a particular fan of the crisp, chilly mornings and it has been lovely to have this backdrop as we begin our new half term. I have loved hearing about all of the fantastic things the children got up to over the half term break. The children across the school have settled back into school routines incredibly well.

As usual the second part of the autumn term is jam-packed with activity and excitement. This evening's Fright Night got the term off to a spooky start- thank you to all of those who supported Shacklewell Families. In the weeks ahead we have a range of activities for all families to get involved with. We have parent workshops, parent consultations, Christmas shows and pantomime trips to look forward to.

Bulletin 2nd Nov 2018

Children in the 2 Year old Provision, Year 2 and Year 6 having a fantastic time with their learning.

Whilst it is easy to get distracted by all the wonderful additional activities, at Shacklewell we never lose focus on our learning. Across this half term children will be diving head first into a range of new learning. We have our brand new IPC themes, fantastic new writing weeks books and challenging new mathematics topics in the weeks ahead. Your child will be bringing home their curriculum leaflet on Monday afternoon, so be sure to read through it to find out what is happening in your child's class.

This term we are dedicating more time to developing our handwriting. Children frequently produce wonderful examples of joint writing or pre cursive script in their handwriting books so this term we are looking to see that transferred across all of their written learning. If you want to support your child with handwriting at home, speak to their class teacher to access some resources we can provide.

Starting from Monday we will be beginning new arrangements for our after school clubs. Children will be collected from the bottom hall and parents will access the school from the side gate. This change in routines is to allow the builders to move heavy equipment between the front of school and the building site during 4.00pm and 5.00pm. Thank you for you patience with the ongoing building work.

Have a restful weekend,

Rory

Parent Workshops

We have lots of parent workshops coming up this term. Starting next week we have the return of 'Come Learn With Me'. The children in Year 6 will showcase their learning to their parents on Thursday 8th. Year 5 will have their chance two weeks later.

Alongside this we have the opportunities for families in reception to come along and find out more about how we teach mathematics. This workshop will take place on the 14th November.

We also have workshops on digital creativity and digital safety for parents so look out for those dates in the coming weeks.

Healthy Hackney

Hackney are launching a new initiative to help get the borough active. 'Family Healthy Lifestyle' is a free healthy eating program designed for 5 to 19 year olds..

The service provides a 10 week weight management program to support young people and their families. The sessions will include help and advice on healthy eating, physical well-being and will provide a range of informative activities to get children active.

If you were interested in taking part then please contact Hackney NHS or click the link.
