Dear families,
the first half term of the academic year has come to an end and it has been a memorable one full of learning and laughter.
The children across the school have settled incredibly well into the expectations for their new year, and this was so clearly demonstrated by the fabulous 1S assembly this morning. It is hard to believe the children have matured so much in just 7 weeks!.
This week we had an important assembly from Borras, the company responsible for the building works. The children had a visit from a very special guest who shared with them how to look after themselves near building sites. We had some very brave staff and pupil volunteers who came to the front to try on the safety gear that builders wear. The children loved the assembly and it was fantastic to see them engaging with such an important message.
We have also been thinking of others this week by collecting for the Hackney Food Bank. This local food bank supports families in difficulty to access well balanced nutritional meals. Thank you all for your generosity. We will be delivering the donations to the food bank during the half term break.
I hope you all have an enjoyable and restful week off and I am looking forward to welcoming y0u all back on the 29th October at 8.55am,
Rory
The children in Year 5 and 6 have been creating absolute masterpieces over the past few weeks.
Working with our art teacher Nompi, the children have explored their identity through art.
Year 6 have been inspired by the work of Nigerian artist Nike Davies-Okundaye to produce multi textured portraits.
Children in Year 5 have been focusing on the artist Frida Kahlo to think carefully about what makes them unique.
I am sure you will agree that the children have done a fantastic job!
This week children in Code Club and our Digital Leaders had an excellent visit to Bletchley Park, home of the famous World War II code breakers.
The children had the chance to see the Enigma machine and to learn about the pioneering computer science work carried out at Bletchley Park.
The trip was made possible because of the hard work and dedication of parents Mirella and Dan, alongside our extended schools coordinator, Bev.
Thank you also to Digital Science for their generous donation which ensured the trip was affordable for all children.
This week we have also been thinking about keeping healthy with the Sugar Smart initiative. Some children in Year 3 took part in games to keep fit and learnt about the amount of sugar in products that they use. They also had a very thorough lesson on how to brush their teeth!
Forest School has also been continuing this week and the children had the opportunity to go to Butterfield Green to explore their natural surroundings.
We also had a visit from Dr. Bike this week who was able to repair many bikes from across the school community. It was so good to see how many of our families value sustainable, green transport.
