Friday 16th November

Update from Mr. McGrath

Dear families,

this week we have been focusing on anti bullying and respect for one another.

Anti-bullying week has been hugely successful here at Shacklewell. Our week began with our fabulous old sock day, where we celebrated our uniqueness and how to respect everyone we know. Across the week the children have had the opportunity to draw, act and write to demonstrate their understanding of bullying, and how to prevent it.

On Wednesday the school council and are our wellbeing ambassadors learnt a play in a day around the theme of anti-bullying. Children in years five and six took part in a performance on Thursday from 'Chickenshed' theatre productions.

Thursday also saw our digital leaders work with parents on how to prevent online bullying. They also spoke with parents about how to talk to their children about issues that might arise online.

On Friday the children were treated to a 'Friendship Lunch' when children sat with new friends and were encouraged to talk to children from different classes.

Have a lovely weekend.

Upcoming Parent Events

This term we have held lots of parent events so far, including our first Come Learn With Me, a session on online safety, and a workshop on mathematics in Reception.

Coming up before the end of the half term, we have year 5 Come Learn With Me on Thursday 22nd November, alongside our regular parent council meeting on Friday 23rd November.

We also have an online creativity parent session on Thursday 29th November followed by a KS1 parent session focused on mathematics on Thursday 6th December.

One final date to remember is the Parent Consultations evening which is taking place on the evening of Thursday 6th December.

Artistic Opportunities

As part of our wellbeing project, all children at Shacklewell have been given the opportunity to get creative.

Hackney NHS and CAMHS service would like to make a positive display of children's art which is focused on the theme of 'words to live by'.

If you would like to complete something with your child they need to be submitted by the 30th December.

Get your pencils, pens & paintbrushes ready because it’s time for our Christmas Card Competition!

Seven winning designs, one from each year group, will be scanned and printed as high-quality cards. Limited-edition card packs will be on sale during the Winter Fair and available to buy from the school office.

The closing date is Friday 23rd November so you have ONE WEEK to make something magical. Please leave your child's entry at the office and remember to write their name and class number on the back.
