Dear Parents and Carers,
December is here and we are gearing up for a great start to the festive season with Friday's 'Winter Fair'. The best Grotto in Hackney is ready and bargain buys prepared. Please come along to the top hall on Friday straight after school to share in the season of goodwill and Christmas spirit. Be prepared to spend a lot of money on presents and cards or just enjoy the crafts with your children.
The rehearsals and preparations continue this week for our Christmas concerts. Years 1-6 are performing everyone's favourite festive hits on Tuesday 12th December. Reception will be performing their own version of Jack Frost on 18th December at 10.00pm. These are both heart warming events not be missed!
This week all year groups are launching a new curiosity and creative learning experience in our Make Do Challenge. This event will be sure to enrich and reward everyone with its hands-on and creative vibe. We are looking forward to welcoming you into school to help design and make festive items out of cardboard.
Finally, please ensure all arrears are cleared before we break for the Christmas Holidays. Payments can be made via the school office or using your Parent Pay account.
Our latest Parent Council Meeting was very successful. We discussed concerns from all areas of the school including plans for our new Year 6 building and our Make Do challenge. Everyone at the meeting brought the good cheer of the festive season by being very supportive and understanding. Many thanks to all those who attended. The minutes of the meeting will be emailed out to you all before the end of the term.
Please don’t forget that this Thursday we are holding our Parent Consultation Evening for Autumn. At this session, you will find out how much progress your child has made so far this year and you can discuss ways to support them at home.
As always we value your contributions, the home school partnership is what makes Shacklewell so special and successful.
Year 3 had a fantastic trip to the Brutish Museum on Wednesday 29th November as part of their IPC unit, 'Temples, Tombs and Treasures.'
The children had the opportunity to explore the Egyptian galleries and examine some of the fantastic exhibits on show there. The were amazed at the mummies and the different artefacts they discovered.
An extra special part of the day was that a member of the public contacted the school to celebrate the behaviour of the children when they were travelling home from the venue!
ooVoo is a video chat app. It lets you make video calls, voice calls and send texts to friends and family. To register with the site, you can set up an account with ooVoo or sign up using an existing Facebook account.
It is available to download for free and is compatible with many devices and allows users to communicate with their friends and family via a group video chat with up to 12 people - a great way to see people that may live far away.
Like many other sites and apps, ooVoo is used by both adults and children and this means that children can be directly contacted by an adult they don’t know.
Please read our guide for more information.
