Dear Families,
Welcome back Shacklewellers! I hope you had a lovely half term break with lots of family fun, days out and also some well earned moments of relaxation.
This half term promises to be wonderful with a variety of seasonal Christmas treats and festivities. Miss Marshall, our music teacher, is organising the best Christmas show in town; look out for more details coming soon!
Our fabulous catering team will be cooking up our special Christmas lunch with all the trimmings! We also have our jolly Christmas Jumper Day and back by popular demand is our annual trip to the Pantomime!
On Friday 15th December Years 1-6 will be visiting the world famous Hackney Empire to see Cinderella. 'Oh yes we are!' all off to the ball ! As always we would like to thank the SPA team and their volunteers for all the fundraising on behalf of the school to help reduce the cost of the show per pupil. However, we will be asking for a contribution of £5 from everyone towards the cost of this exciting and festive event.
As always, we will be bringing the experience of a big Christmas show, Hansel and Gretel, to school for our Nursery and Reception pupils. On Monday 11th December the Big Foot Theatre Company will be taking the youngest pupils by the hand into the depths of the forest and back again via the witch's gingerbread house.
For those of you who need a few more presents under the tree - don’t forget that SPA are organising our Christmas fair with mince pies, themed activities and Santa's Grotto. I can’t wait!
I am sure that a great many of you will be accompanying your children on ‘trick or treat’ during Halloween night. Enjoy yourselves and please do take care. Remember that school starts bright and early on Wednesday morning.
Coming home to you this week are the new curriculum leaflets and new Maker Mats. Thanks once again for the first half term's super show of home learning produced in every year group. I am sure you will continue to find the new ideas we have come up with just as exciting.
Parent Consultation evening is scheduled for Thursday 7th December, when you will get the chance to meet with your child’s teacher to discuss your child’s progress so far this year.
Finally, I would like to thank all of you for continuing to support Shacklewell. Your encouragement and contributions towards what we are trying to achieve cannot be underestimated.
On Friday 20th October the first Parent Council meeting of the new school year was held. The parents had opportunity to discuss the special events happening at Shacklewell. Items discussed included the ongoing Enrichment provision at Shacklewell and how Ms. Dickinson works with local organisations to provide the children at Shacklewell the best opportunities.
The parents also spoke about the role of Pobble at Shacklewell. I shared with the parents the incentive for the children to become published writers and about the positive impact it has had on the children's desire to write.
The next Parent Council meeting will be held on Friday 24th November at 9am in the Community room. If you have items you would like raised please do not hesitate to email the Chairperson Nic Palmer; spc@newwavefederation.co.uk
This half term sees the return of our Parent Workshops.
We are hosting four workshops this term the first of which will be on Tuesday 7th November at 9.00am when there will be an opportunity for parents in the Nursery and Reception classrooms to come to attend a workshop on the Interactive Learning Diary. Parents will be shown how to add content to their child's profile and how to view what the children have been doing in class.
If you are interested in finding out more about Internet Safety then please come to our morning session at 9.00am on Thursday 9th November. We will be looking at the different tools available online and thinking about ways to talk with your children about staying safe online.
For parents who have children in Aqua, Sky, 1S or 1W and are interested in finding out more about Read Write Inc, there will be a workshop on Thursday 16th November at 9.00am. At the workshop you will find out how to support your children to develop their phonetic understanding and encourage them to become fluent readers.
Our final workshop for this half term will be Mathematics at 9.00am Thursday 23rd November. This workshop is open to all parents and will be an opportunity for you to find out strategies to support your children at home with Mathematics.
At Shacklewell we like to regularly find out how the school community feels about what is happening at school.
This term we have created a questionnaire which was published on 20th October and is open for responses until Friday 3rd November.
The questionnaire is primarily focused on the impact of the Maker Mat on home learning but we are also asking you, our supportive community, to tell us how you can help us even further.
Do you have a secret talent? A passion for art? Maybe your career is full of fascinating stories? There is a section of the questionnaire for you to let us know about these and how you might want to help us.
You can click the link here or scan the QR code to complete the questionnaire.
Always looking for ways to let you know what is happening at school. Have a look at some of the highlights below and remember you can join in the conversation yourself by following @ShacklewellE8.
Hopefully over the half term you have been able to explore the Interland!
This week we are continuing our theme of online safety but this week's website is focused on how parents can broach those tricky conversations about online safety with their children.
thinkuknow has a vast range of materials available for children too but this link leads specifically to an area for parents.
It is vital that both schools and parents talk to their children about staying safe online and thinkuknow empowers parents to do it safely and with support.
We will be hosting an internet safety workshop for parents on Thursday 9th November, 9.00am-10.00am if you would like to find out more about thinkuknow and other resources available.
