Dear families,
What a wonderful school community we have at Shacklewell. Our amazing SPA team drew a host of volunteers into school this half term, but they need your help once more! The final preparations for our Christmas Fair are underway and if you can spare some time before or during the event then please get in touch with the SPA chair Ping.
We have hosted a range of visitors from across Europe this half term and I wish that you could all be present when they share their thoughts about Shacklewell. They were so overwhelmingly positive about the school's atmosphere, the children's learning and the obvious pride that is felt across the entire school community.
As a beacon school we always open to the world and we are willing to support other schools on their journey to ignite passion and curiosity in the classroom.
Thank you for your interest in our annual book fair and as a result we have raised £300 worth of new books to add to our own school library.
Years 1-6 all are off to the Panto on 15th December (Oh yes we are!) at Hackney Empire! If you have not returned your permission slip and £5.00 then please do so as soon as possible. This is a fantastic whole school event for us to celebrate and enjoy the end of a fantastic term. Please note that all pupils will be dismissed from school for approximately 4:45pm.
A final reminder next week, Thursday 7th December we have our parents' evening. All parents are encouraged to sign up to see their child's teacher on the morning of Wednesday 29th November in the KS1 playground. If you are unable to make the 29th November, please ensure you book your appointments by telephoning the school office.
Starting next week we have our Makedo challenge! This interactive construction challenge builds on on our creative learning that has been taking place this term. Click the logo to find out more!
To ensure our Makedo challenge is a success we need your help; can you please drop off cardboard of all shapes and sizes to the front office before Friday afternoon? If you would like to join us during the afternoon next week to help us construct our creative projects then please let the office know which day you are free and which class you would like to help.
The Christmas songs are already starting to ring through the halls and we cannot wait to welcome you on 12th December at 9:30 and 2:30pm.
Children will need to wear certain colours to really bring out the festive spirit.
On the day of the show the children must wear the following colours to school. Children in Year 1 and Year 6 will need to wear red, Year 2 will need to wear green and Year 3 will need to wear purple.
Please could the children in Year 4 wear white and silver. The children in Year 5 wear will need something yellow or gold.
Looking forward to singing-a-long to all our festive favourites!
On Wednesday our Year 4 children took to the high seas as they set off to explore the Maritime Museum at Greenwich.
The children, who are studying Explorers in their IPC topic, saw some of the incredible history on display. They saw models and shipwreck, grand pieces of art and they also got to put on the costumes of some early explorers.
The children particularly liked the huge world map which they could physically explore. This lead to lots of great conversations about the make up of our community.
Year 3 were very lucky to welcome international author Mo O'Hara into their writing lessons on Thursday.
Mo read extracts from her stories including My Big Fat Zombie Goldfish and then helped the children to structure their own imaginative pieces of writing.
Mo helped the children choose language and sentences for dramatic affect and her inspiring story telling really got the children excited about their work.
Continuing our focus on the apps our children are using this week we will look at YouTube.
YouTube is a video sharing website and app that allows users to share, view and upload videos via mobile, tablet, laptop and desktop computer. In its early format, most videos were uploaded by individual users showing home-made footage, but in more recent years, film clips, television programmes and music videos have been uploaded by organisations as well as individual users.
Please click the app icon to find out even more about Snapchat.
