Dear Families,
It was lovely to feel the warmth of summer this weekend and I hope you enjoyed yourselves. It is week four and full steam ahead on the proud Shacklewell ship.
At Shacklewell we are always innovating and embracing change. Last week we introduced Pobble, a fantastic learning resource. It promotes engaging contexts for writing and as parents you can log in and comment on your child's writing. You can even add a comment if you want!
If you have not yet done so, you can still sign up at the school office or by clicking on the logo above. This will allow us to upload your child's work and you will then receive a notification when their work has been posted. The children get a thrill and are very excited to see themselves as authors and publishers.
Michelle Thomas, our Executive Principal, sent us some effusive congratulations on the new displays around the school, particularly in the main hall. They are absolutely wonderful and they help brighten everyone's day. We are lucky to have such creative and artistic pupils and staff– a big thank you to all of them.
Many pupils are beginning to bring in their first Maker Mat creations to show their classmates. Year 1 children have produced owls inspired by their graphic novel, Flashlight, as well as other birds' nests made from a range of materials. It is delightful to see all their creations coming together. When you have created something from the Maker Mat please bring it into school. We want to see a vast array of creativity coming in soon.
This Wednesday some of the Federation Governing Body are visiting Shacklewell. I'm sure they will be as impressed as the rest of us by the school environment and the work everyone is putting in.
One of the autumn term's highlights is coming up this week; Countryside Live at Lee Valley. Our Year 2 and Year 5 pupils will get an absolutely first-class insight into life in the British countryside. This is a fantastic opportunity for our children to experience life outside London.
Finally, there's always a reminder. Regular attendance is a priority for good reason. Students who miss school on a regular basis can suffer academically. Therefore let's all make an effort to improve attendance here at Shacklewell.
This week we have been jumping into our new learning for IPC! At the start of each topic the children do a creative and engaging activity called an Entry Point and as you can see, the muckier and messier the better!
Children across the school will now spend the next part of the term finding out about topics as wide ranging as archaeology, inventions, democracy and their local area.
Keep an eye out for more exciting learning from across the IPC topics in the coming weeks.
Always looking for ways to let you know what is happening at school, a lot of our teachers have started their own professional Twitter accounts. Have a look at some of the highlights below and remember you can join in the conversation yourself by following @ShacklewellE8.
On Thursday our newly elected Junior Road Safety Officers from Year 5 headed to Hackney Museum for their first training session.
The children rubbed shoulders with The Speaker of Hackney Council, Soraya Adejare, alongside other safe travel enthusiasts and advocates.
The children also learnt how to positively share the messages of road safety and it was wonderful to work alongside our friends from Grazebrook and Woodberry Down Primary Schools.
Look out for more news from our JRSO as the year progresses!
Today saw the launch of the annual 'Beat the Street' competition which encourages all of us to walk the length and breadth of the borough to win prizes!
Using the fob or card given to them in school the children will be able to gain points and prizes for both themselves and the school.
