Dear Parents and Carers,
Friday was a big day for us here at Shacklewell as not only did we have our fantastic gardeners in the playground planting bulbs, a cake sale after school but we we also hosted 42 Dutch visitors.
Our international colleagues came to Shacklewell to find out more about our values and ethos, with a particular focus on how technology enhances our children's learning. The visitors walked through the school and spoke with the children. They were stunned at how mature, independent and confident all of our children are. Our wonderful digital learners also showcased some of the fantastic devices and apps we use at school and it is safe to say that they were blown away!
Last week was Anti-Bullying week and after a lovely, bright and colourful start to the week with our odd socks, the children spent time everyday thinking about positive solutions to the problem of bullying. Some children created traditional posters, or worked on pieces of poetry and creative slogans, whilst other children created dynamic digital videos. The inspiring messages are now on display across the school and the with the introduction of the Anti-bulling ambassadors this week, these positive messages will continue throughout the school year.
Looking ahead to the coming weeks we have a number of big events happening. First of all we have our final parent workshop of the half term on Thursday morning. This workshop will focus on how we teach mathematics at Shacklewell and will be from 9.00am-10.00am in the top hall.
On Thursday 7th December we have our autumn parents' evening. All parents are encouraged to sign up to see their child's teacher on the morning of Wednesday 29th November in the KS1 playground. If you cannot make the 29th November, individual teachers will not be able to make appointments for you so please ensure you book them through the office.
We also have our 'Shacklewell Snowdown' on the 12th December with two performances, 9.30am and 2.30pm, to ensure as many of you are able to attend as possible. Please be sure to get your tickets from the office beforehand.
At the end of that week we also have our Christmas dinner on the 14th December and then on Christmas jumper day, the 15th December, Years 1-6 are headed off to the pantomime at Hackney Empire! If you have not returned your permission slip and £5.00 then please do so as soon as possible.
Have a lovely week,
Nicole
School will be alive with colour come the spring because on Friday our parents came in to plant over 500 bulbs! Together with children from across the school the parents dug the flower beds in front of year 2 and the large strip of garden between the key stage 1 and key stage 2 playgrounds. Thank you for so generously giving us your time and effort to make our school a bright and colourful place.
Friday was a busy day for the SPA because there was also a cake sale in the key stage 1 playground after school. The delicious treats on offer caused quite the stir with everything vanishing in a matter of minutes! As a community we raised £145.11 which will go towards more fantastic resources for our children.
Continuing our focus on the apps our children are using this week we will look at Snapchat.
Snapchat is a mobile application that allows users to create, edit and share pictures and videos. Images sent on Snapchat are often referred to as ‘snaps’. Snapchat’s tag line is, “life’s more fun when you live in the moment”. Thus, Snapchat focuses on capturing ‘moments’ quickly; users take images and videos and send them instantly. The unique feature of Snapchat is that images disappear with seconds.
Please click the app icon to find out even more about Snapchat.
Interested in joining the teaching profession, or know some one who is? Please look at the training routes we offer across all of the New Wave Federation schools.
Our school Christmas tree has been provided by The Christmas Forest, who are opening their pop-up shop in Stoke Newington on November 21st.
They will be selling a fabulous selection of sustainably grown, freshly cut Christmas trees all handpicked for their quality. There will be different varieties and a huge range of sizes all displayed in a forest-like setting. They also stock holly, wreaths, mistletoe and treats for the kids too. For every tree sold, they donate to plant a tree in the African drylands through Tree Aid.
Come and wander through and pick your perfect Christmas tree and enjoy an extra festive glow knowing your trees means something more. Parking and delivery available. Please contact 0203 953 8794 for any questions. Open 8am- 10pm Monday to Sunday until December 24th.
