Dear Parents and Carers,
As we approach the final week, if I had to choose one word to sum up the half term it has to be creativity! Yet again, we must celebrate the huge effort and ingenuity that has been put into the Home Learning. Many of your comments about the new Home Learning this half term have been very positive and judging by what has been brought into school, the creative juices have really been flowing! To enable us to get a more comprehensive picture about what you like and what we could improve about 'Maker Mat' we will be sending you a short questionnaire about it. This will enable us to frame the choices to suit your child even more.
As you know academic success and enrichment in terms of the wider curriculum and the variety of opportunities we create, is always at heart of what we aim to provide.
This can be seen so many ways across the school;
The orienteering course at various local parks and venues
The singing and choreography involved in the Christmas story
The artwork and sculptures of HunterWasser that Year 5 are studying
Linking with the Royal Shakespeare Company schools program, where pupils can see a Shakespeare play, participate in drama workshops and learn how to make props and produce special effects
Working with the British Film Institute in collaboration with the French cinematique to create a film on the theme ' Stories Around the World'.
As you can see enrichment is very important to us and we are constantly seeking ways to improve our provision.
Finally, I would like to congratulate you all because last week we have achieved the school's target of 97% attendance. Let's keep this up, I'm sure we can do even better.
Thank you for your support,
Nicole
What a success Fright Night was! The children wore spooky outfits, were terrified by the monsters lurking around school and gobbled some delicious Halloween inspired treats!
All the proceeds from Fright Night will go straight back into our school to provide excellent resources for all the children.
It would not be possible to run these events without your help so a huge thank you to the whole Shacklewell community for your support. A special mention to the SPA for their time, commitment and creativity; we're looking forward to the next event already!
School Council got off to a great start today with an incredibly productive meeting.
The children were able to focus on issues arising in school but most helpfully were able to create some possible solutions.
The children will meet in the first week back for their follow up meeting and they are already enthusiastic about the changes they can implement across the coming year.
Year 1 have been studying Harvest during this term in R.E. Today they were able to finish their topic with a fantastic art activity, lead by our Chair of Parent Council, Nic Palmer in partnership with St. Barnabas Church. The children created pieces of art work based on the images of harvest and were able to use actual food products including tea and corn to create their images. A personal thank you to Nic for all her help with today's lesson. The children thoroughly enjoyed it.
This week is the start of Harvest Festival. This is a festival we celebrate in school each year. We are always impressed with your generosity and kindness at this time of year and would like to ask you once again to make a food donation.
We will be collecting food throughout the week and will create a display of food in the main entrance of the school. Please bring your donations to the school office or send it in to class with your child. Please donate items food items that are in date and are either in a tin, bottle or secure packaging. Thank You.
This week has seen our fantastic Digital Leaders start working across school.
Children from Year 4, 5 and 6 had to complete a job application form and they were selected by the senior members of the school's teaching team.
Digital leaders help to raise awareness of whole school issues, talk to students about internet safety procedures but perhaps most helpfully they are trained to help teachers and students alike when the technology stops working!
Congratulations to the new recruits!

This week we are focusing on a website which is available across all devices, Interland.
Internet safety, whilst a constant part of our teaching, has had a rejuvenated focus this half term. Interland is a fantastic way for you to carry on the conversation at home.
A stylishly designed game Interland takes children though the pitfalls of the internet and provides them with tips and ideas on how to keep themselves, their images and their data safe.
