Sulfur Dioxide was first studied in depth by Joseph Priestly, an English physicist and chemist.
The chemical can be released into the air as a result of burning fossil fuels, trees, and other organic matter. Sulfur dioxide is also found in volcanoes and hot springs and it put out into the atmosphere when a volcano erupts.
Sulfur Dioxide can also be produced by burning sulfur, iron pyrite, or copper pyrite. It is also a major component in acid rain.
