Hello! I'm Ms. Zak, your Elementary School Counselor!
Welcome to another year full of possibilities and great opportunities! Throughout the year, I provide monthly class lessons, individual student counseling, small groups as necessary, and opportunities for larger group “fishbowl” type discussions called Restorative Circles on a variety of topics. Most of these groups are very short term, often consisting of just one initial meeting on a certain topic (similar to a class lesson). However, information on small groups that meet regularly will always be sent home for approval. I will work with students on a variety of social skills, coping strategies, problem-solving, skill-building, anger management, and other social-emotional needs. I can also provide parents with resources and referrals for outside services. I may see students on an individual basis at their request, in emergency situations, at the request/referral of a teacher or administrator, and at your request, but always on a voluntary basis. If you feel your child could benefit from individual counseling services, call or email me with your concerns, and I will be happy to help in any way that I can. Because school counseling is considered a regular educational service provided by the school, there is nothing additional required of you. However, if you prefer to opt out of these services for your child, simply notify me or the school in writing.
Please feel free to contact me at any time throughout the school year. Calls, emails, and meetings are all welcome. The success of our students is always my top priority, and I consider it a privilege to be a part of their lives here at school. I look forward to working with you and your children, and I wish you all a wonderful year!
