A PRACTICE SPACE AND COMMUNITY CENTER FOR THE BUSKING SUBCULTURE OF NYC
Buskers are individuals that the world encounters when travelling from one destination to another. This halfway point that buskers exist within is what I have used as a framework when creating my design. I have transformed the space into a community center and practice location for the MUNY (Music Under New York) busking community to use during their non-performance hours. From the research I have gathered, buskers often practice in music stores or in their homes, neither of which have adequate resources, privacy or inspiration for these creatives to work within. Through including private practice rooms, a recording studio, open stage and lounge seating, a cafe, and locker storage. Buskers are welcome to use this space as their own “in-between”.

FINAL REFLECTIONS
Music has been something I have used as an outlet my whole life. Playing instruments and singing has allowed me to learn about myself in ways unparalleled to other experiences. This understanding I have allowed me to connect with the busking community in a way that made me a more considerate designer. Through working on this project amid the ongoing pandemic, it dawned on me how much music can bring people together. From neighbours singing outside their windows in harmony, to famous artists singing the same song together online, it is clear that music will always be there when humanity needs it most. My goal in creating this project was to design a space where buskers can be inspired, motivated, and educated by one another.
