This semester we were tasked with redesigning the famed Chelsea Hotel in New York City. I wanted to design a hotel that offered something different than what other hotels were doing, and that being that it was a destination in itself.

I wanted to pay homage to the hotel's storied past, once being a place where creatives came and stayed and ideas and creations flowed freely. It was also known for its parties, where I designed multiple venues for guests to come and unwind based on different energy levels.

Suites are equipped with colorful Venetian plaster walls and midnight navy blue ceilings and are meant for entertaining. I designed a custom bed made from plum wood and leather detailing to act as both a couch and bed. Marble fireplaces, Vintage Persian rugs, smeg refrigerators and original custom walnut burl liquor cabinets are seen throughout with a bathroom that hosts a giant rain fall shower meant for more than one person.

The hotel is home to APT 222, the rooftop bar On Top, Chelsea After Dark and Rebound Bar. Each one is particularly designed based off different energy levels.

Apt 222 acts as an apartment party that you always dreamed of being invited to. Spanning an entire floor of the hotel, each room is color coded and given a different mood. Two lounges, a library, game room, a stocked kitchen and even a “bedroom” to make you feel that you are at a home away from home.

The rooftop bar houses an enclosed glass paneled DJ room, custom light fixtures, giant couches and stadium seating for warm summer nights. It also features a large reflective perimeter fixture so that the infamous NYC skyline is reflected while patrons revel in the night.

Chelsea After Dark acts as the underground nightclub that feels as though you are at a warehouse party in brooklyn with bright lights, large beams and beautifully designed bars located around the space. Resident Djs spin tunes to the morning hours.

Last but not least, Rebound Bar acts as an oasis to nurse you back to life after a long night out on the town or hotel. Day beds are reserved for those who are indulging in a vitamin or hydration IV while couches and tables are meant for those enjoying fresh squeezed cocktails, mocktails and more.

Final Presentation

Hotel Chelsea

For our final we were required to create a slideshow deck that accurately depicted our concept of the newly designed Chelsea Hotel. My slideshow begins with parts of my brand book and then dives into the different experiences I curated for my guests using various softwares and media. Most of my production was created using Rhino, Photoshop, and Illustrator while my deck was created in InDesign. I hope you enjoy it!
