The Modern Metabolism

The goal of our thesis is to develop a healthy, multi-sensorial, and sustainable system of small-space living in the modern urban city, exploring the adaptive reuse of an iconic structure for intergenerational and interspecies communities. Through the actions of removing and adding onto the existing structure, we are revitalizing a 1970s Metabolism mixed-use residential tower located in Tokyo, Japan, taking into account both its local ecology as well as its social dynamics.

Hello!

Welcome to our Independent Study: Capstone Thesis. You have entered Elmira's individual page; however, my thesis is not an individual project. As you can notice on the left, I have decided to do my final thesis project with my classmate and best friend, Siran Xiang. The distance between us due to the circumstances did not cause a problem at all since we call each other every day anyway. Together, we introduce you the Modern Metabolism.

Please take note of our two starring characters in our drawings (the resident colored in hot pink and the visitor colored in yellow), and don't let the little details escape your sight :)

Final Iteration

We are introducing you to the final iteration of our Independent Study Thesis: The Modern Metabolism. Dive into our pink-colored universe filled with charming drawings and diagrams! Explore the new proposal of the Nakagin Capsule Tower through our two characters: the resident (pink) and the visitor (yellow.)
