Timeline of Block Union

Over the past 100 years the block went from two separate ones to a "superblock" by the union of them. This created a whole new space that is currently being used as a pavemented playground.

Proposal

Get rid of the half street that enters into the open space, reactivate the street as a pedestrian and bike friendly one, create a sectional change to define the threshold between the open public space (commons) from attorney street in order to acoustically "escape the city", and connect the gardens with the commons via accessible ramps.

Open Roof Structure

Rain water collecting canopy, hosts temporary events (farmers market, gathering spaces), entrance / portal into the block

Greenhouse

Grow all year-round plants, bring back a piece of home to the hispanic community by growing tropical plants, provides a learning opportunity for the school.
