The Institute of Latin American Studies (ILAS) at Columbia University invites us for a talk with Laura Carvalho, professor of Economics at the University of São Paulo, author of the book Valsa Brasileira, and columnist of Folha de São Paulo, who will talk about The Rise and Fall of the Brazilian Economy. Laura Carvalho is a Professor of Economics at the University of São Paulo and a columnist for the Brazilian newspaper Folha de São Paulo. She holds a PhD in Economics from the New School for Social Research and her research focuses on topics in Macroeconomics and Development Economics, particularly on the relationship between economic growth and income distribution. Besides publishing academic articles, she has authored the book “Valsa Brasileira”, on the rise and fall of the Brazilian economy, which has sold more than 20,000 copies in Brazil.
