Masks are optional and strongly encouraged in indoor instructional spaces on our campus when there are two or more people present for a sustained period of time.
Any member of the community can voluntarily choose to wear a mask in any setting at any time and for any reason (including personal and community protection against seasonal flu and colds). This personal choice should be respected. As with vaccination status, no one should ask another individual about their personal choice to wear a mask.
If you test positive for COVID-19, you should inform the school as soon as possible. If you used a free Binx test on-campus, your results will be automatically shared. If you used an off-campus PCR or Rapid test, please upload the result to the SHS portal. To do so, click the red button that reads "Enter my COVID-19 Test Results" on the SHS portal home screen.
Student Health Services will contact you by phone or email once your positive test has been uploaded. They will explain the isolation procedures and what you need to do to safely recover and return to campus.
Students who test positive are required to isolate at home for at least 5 days. If you are asymptomatic (no symptoms) or if your symptoms get better after 5 days, you will be able to return to campus. If you continue to experience COVID-19 symptoms after 5 days, you must extend your isolation to 10 days.
If you want to talk to someone about how to manage your COVID-19 symptoms during your isolation, you can call or email SHS to schedule a virtual appointment. You can call them at 212-229-1671 (option 2) or email them at shs@newschool.edu.
If after 5 days you are symptom-free, you can be cleared to return to campus on day #6. If your isolation was extended to 10 days and you feel better, you can return to campus on day #11. In either case, you should email SHS staff at shs@newschool.edu and let them know you are asymptomatic and have completed your isolation. They will respond once your campus access has been reinstated.
