There are several steps to gaining access to campus. Please read through them all carefully to ensure you understand. Feel free to email elsc@newschool.edu at any time with questions. We look forward to meeting you all on campus!
You must have a New School student ID card, which is called the Newcard, to access campus buildings and services. Proof of vaccination, testing status, and daily health screening results will be linked to students' New School ID card. Your health records remain private. Only authorized individuals in Human Resources or Student Health Services have access to them to ensure that our campus remains safe.
Submit your passport-style picture at the New School Photo portal (see below). This picture submission expedites the creation of your Newcard.
If you have any questions, please contact Campus Card Services at newcard@newschool.edu. Your Newcard will be provided to you at check into University housing, or at the Card Services desk in the University Center.
Campus access is dependent on testing status and vaccination status, both of which are linked to your Newcard.
Visit Student Health Services Portal and log in with your NetID and password.
Enter your date of birth to confirm your identity and then click the red button that says “Proceed.”
Next, click the red button that says “Enter My COVID-19 Vaccine Information” (third red button from the top). If you don’t see this button, click the three horizontal lines in the upper left corner of your screen to open the sidebar and then click “Medical Clearances.”
When the window opens, click the green “Upload” button to add a photo of your vaccination record.
Please note: Only .jpg (most preferred), .png, .gif, or .pdf files will be accepted and the vaccine record must be in English. If your vaccine record is in another language, please upload an English translation.
Please upload all vaccine documents (all pages, front and back of cards etc., multiple files can be uploaded), including booster.
A preview of the image or file you selected will pop up. Make sure the photo or document is clear and click “Looks Good.”
Next, type in the date(s) on which you received your vaccine(s) and choose the vaccine type from the drop down menu.
Then, click the “Done” button in the bottom right corner of your screen.
If you would like to request a religious or medical exemption, please download the form from the SHS portal (under Downloadable Forms in the menu) and follow the instructions.
You will not receive a confirmation email when your record is submitted or approved. To ensure your submission has been received, click the “Medical Clearances'' link on the left side of the portal screen (or within the menu if using a mobile device). If you successfully uploaded your record, this page will say “Awaiting Review.” Once your submission is reviewed and approved, the status will change to “Compliant.” You can log in to the portal at any time to check the status of your submission.
IMPORTANT: Only vaccines authorized by the U.S. FDA or World Health Organization (WHO) for emergency use will be accepted. If you received a vaccine that is not listed in the drop down menu, please email shs@newschool.edu to inquire.
Those not yet eligible or unable to access a booster must receive a booster within 14 days of becoming eligible or gaining access to a booster shot.
Testing is no longer required for building access for those in compliance with the university’s vaccination policy. Free PCR tests continue to be available on campus at Arnhold Hall, located at 55 W. 13th Street.
Individuals with approved vaccination exemptions are also no longer required to test for building access.
