Welcome to the School Based Health Center

New Milford Public Schools and CT Institute for Communities (CIFC Health) working collaboratively together to support student's and family's needs within the district providing mental health services year round.

What is a School Based Health Center?

The purpose of the School Based Health Center (SBHC) at this time is to provide mental health/behavioral support to students, families, and community year round. Our goal is to work collaboratively with school staff to provide therapeutic support for students during the school day to prevent students from being removed from school for therapy sessions, decrease crisis at school/home, and help reduce families who struggle to utilize therapeutic services within the community. Services are provided by a licensed mental health provider located within the school building.

In the future, a Nurse Practitioner (NP) will be a part of the SBHC to provide medical services. The NP’s role will be to provide care to students who are not feeling well at school, conduct routine tests within the office. (i.e., Strep, Flu, COVID), new district enrollments needing physicals/vaccines to enter the school. The NP’s role is to provide services like an Urgent Care, they will not to take place of your current pediatrician. (NP services TBD when they will start within each SBHC.)

How to enroll?

A student MUST be registered to receive services. Registration forms can be found at the school based health center, link below, or can be sent home via email. Sign up even if you do not use services the registration form will follow you throughout your schooling in NM and if you choose to attend Henry Abbott Technical High School, we have a SBHC there too.

The SBHC accepts students with and without health insurance. If you do have health insurance, we do request a copy of the insurance card to be sent in with the student’s registration form. You will NOT receive a bill from the school based health center, if you have insurance, we will bill insurance and if you have a deductible, it can help work towards reducing that. Please note, no one will receive a bill from CIFC Health for using SBHC services.
