Year 10 Music

Inquiry; What does it take to be the musician I want to be?

At Year 10 there are two different Music Classes. In both Music classes, students will investigate the question: What does it take to be a musician I want to be?

Students will build on their knowledge from Year 9 Music but also refine the skills that they already developed in their Music Education outside of college.

Overall the programme is designed to ensure students obtain success in NCEA Music at Year 11, either in Music Studies or Music Technology

10 Music Studies

Students enrolled in the course will also need to be learning a musical instrument either through the Itinerant Music Programme offered at Newlands College or from an external tutor.

Students will focus on improving their music literacy and aural skills. They will also learn how to perform in front of an audience as a soloist and as a member of a group with a focus on different styles and genres of music.

10 Music Technology

Students will learn and refine their music writing skills with a focus on song writing.

Students will learn basic skills on how to write songs, record and produce their own music.

At the end of the course the class will have produce an album of their works.
