Instruction and Management

Classroom Management Philosophy

A solid classroom management plan is a necessity for every teacher. It is the foundation for motivating, organizing, managing, and successfully teaching our students. I aim to provide a teaching environment that is patient, fun, caring, consistent, nurturing, and effective. The goals of my classroom management philosophy are to develop learner responsibility, create a positive classroom environment, and maximize learning opportunities with clear, easy to follow instructions and firm boundaries which guide students.

I will promote acceptable behavior in my classroom by modeling and teaching students through PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Supports) strategies. I will focus on the do's of behavior and reward acceptable behavior while offering a consistent daily routine. With this being said, I will handle extreme situations with poise, dignity, and total respect for the student. I will address specific disruptive and aggressive misbehavior as they arise. I want students to understand the consequences of their actions and that unnecessary disruptions effect themselves and others in the classroom.

I believe all students to be treated fairly, but this does not mean the same. Every student will be treated as an individual with differing abilities, cultures, genders, ethnicities, and socioeconomic factors at play. I expect all students to perform to the best of their abilities at all times. My goal is for students to have the confidence to try new and unfamiliar work without any fear of failure. Through an encouraging, motivating, and supportive classroom environment and management philosophy, I aim to build my students up to be their best at any given moment in any given day.

The instruction in my class will vary according to every student’s level. Students who finish tasks before the others will be provided enrichment work to continue engagement to prevent unnecessary distractions. I firmly believe in cooperative learning because it helps all students learn through a supportive and understanding environment. Students may be placed in heterogeneous or homogeneous groups depending on the content of each lesson. Cooperative learning also helps build a sense of community and trust among the students while offering valuable lessons on team-work and emotional management.

Daily and consistent reflection is important to me. The ability to meditate and reflect back on my educational and disciplinary strategies through my performance as a teacher helps me to identify, address, and modify my weaknesses. My classroom management philosophy will continue to grow and evolve as I grow and evolve as a teacher.
