Distance Learning during our School Closure

Please refer to the basic Action Plan to help your child continue learning during the school closure. Your child will have the following resources:

-District packet including 10 days of 2nd grade activities (work on a couple of pages each day)

-Weekly Reading Log (complete one per week)

-Daily Warm-up book (complete one per day)

-2 spelling lists (practice on Spelling City and complete word sorts)

-Scholastic News (to be used for reading, do not return)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The link to the District’s Clever page so your child can access all of their regular online resources is https://bit.ly/2M95iVR

I have created an email list that will be used to send out messages to parents during the school closure. Each day, I’ll send the answers to the warm-up, a special activity for the day, and other links, tips, or information to help the kids keep up with their learning.

Contact me by Remind or email if you have questions/concerns. (jchang@newarkunified.org)

**I’ll be available during the usual school hours of 8:00am-3:30pm. Please keep in mind that I’ll be home with my own children but will make every effort to respond in a timely manner.

"VIB" Monthly Character Trait for March: Using Good Manners

Say “please,” “thank you,” and respond to greetings and conversations with adults and peers. Clean up after yourself and look out for others too.

Our classroom will honor a few students who exemplify this trait at a "Very Important Bulldog" lunch with Mrs. Ditto in the cafeteria.

Home/School Connection

*Read every evening! Be sure your child can summarize what they’re reading. Describe the characters, setting, problem, and solution. Students should be able to answer questions and point to evidence from the story to back-up their thinking. Practice the 121 sight words.

*Be sure your child writes detailed sentences with attention to proper capitalization and punctuation.

*Review spelling words AND the spelling pattern for the week. Students should be able to use the pattern to spell more than just the words on the list.

*Practice math facts (up to 20); identify missing addends; add in any order; use doubles or make tens to add; count on or count back to subtract; get to 10 to subtract; decompose/compensate/regroup to add and subtract 2-digit numbers; count by ones, fives, tens, and hundreds to 1,000; add and subtract 3-digit numbers (using number line, compensation, and vertical form)
