W.I.Ps or Work in progresses are pretty self explanatory. They are an unfinished piece or sketch done by an artist. These often are very rough and non outlined. W.I.Ps can be un-colored line arts, color groups, or the shading without outlines.

Color groups are small circles of color that tell the artist where a color is supposed to go and what that color looks like.

It can take a while to find the perfect color we are looking for so when we find it, we put a little splotch where we want that color to go. That way, we can simply copy the color and use it to fill in the designated space. Certain colors may be in groups, that is because there may be a specific color that will be used as shading for another.

For ex: A dark purple, a regular purple, and a light purple will be used as shading. The regular purple will be the normal color of the object, while the darker purple will be applied to any part of the object that needs a shadow and the light purple will be used for any part of the object where light shines on it.
